Emma is into the official top 10 today

So Bencic is the only player who can knock Emma off 10th place this week… She is the number 2 seed playing in Lausanne and I believe if she reaches the semi final then she will overtake Emma and will be on 2745 which is 28 points ahead of Emma on 2717

The WTA ranking system really is a joke and its really pointless in my view - I just want to see Emma improve her tennis and perform on the big stage.

#So many tournaments nobody gives a crap about, and they also pay peanuts on womens side , danger is if players chase these then they often get injured when it only matters (Wimbledon, USO)

Those who chase points and scavenge every tournament I really do not care. Hopefully Emma just focusses on being a better tennis player.

Bencic would need to get to the Final to overtake Emma. Belinda's current 16th tournament counting towards rankings is 60 points, so she has to better that to increase her current total. A Semi is worth 110 points but only adds 50 points to her rankings total, still leaving her behind Emma. A Final adds 120 points, which would leave her 38 ahead of Emma.

As I type, Belinda is a set down to Parry so hopefully all this will become moot.

Kasatkina has exactly the same situation in Hamburg the following week.

Both Emma and Belinda could be in top 10 soon. Danielle Collins has a lot of points to defend in July: 110 this week (lost already), 280 next week and 470 in 3 weeks (San Jose). Neither Emma or Belinda have any points on the line.

Emma will be in and around top 10 due to lack of points to defend up until the USO which is when the real defending of points starts and a whopping 2000 of them could come off. As it’s stands, Emma is #66 in the rankings race but this is of course a very fluid situation with the HC season approaching.

I predict Emma will be in the top ten before the USO even if she transiently drops outside in July. I think she's taking the USO hard court season seriously and has a chance to go deep.

Ask anybody about London, Paris, New York and Melbourne and no one's mentioning tennis sadly.

Tennis is for tennis fans and I don't understand the concern for what casuals care or don't care about. As long as the draws are full I care about how Emma performs in each of the events and I'm sure Emma does too. Each tournament deserves its ranking points and what needs to happen is an increase of their stature. That is something that will be propagated by players taking every event they take part in seriously. Otherwise tennis will just die.
