The serve problems are largely (but not totally) mental with her. When she doesn't feel pressure from an opponent she serves a lot freer.

 

This isn't going to make any sense to the Coco fans who watched the match or the people just seeing the scoreline but I don't think this was a good match for her.

Uchijima was so bad. Some of the worst I've seen from her. Just hitting balls out, poor movement. None of her craft and creativity. It was to the point that Coco had no pressure on her service games and could just roll in the balls on first serve and not face any challenge.

She played so well in Beijing until she came up against a tough opponent with a different playing style to everyone she faced before. She might end up being undercooked again with the state of her section of the draw. She was good but she didn't have to be great

This may sound crazy, but this was the best match I've seen Coco play all year (outside of the Boisson match). Her serve, forehand, footwork and balance looked very good.

 

Even better than the Madrid double bread stick of Iga? Far superior opponent.

 

I can't remeber the last time she hasn't hit a Df in a match

 

R16 last year against Kostyuk in Wuhan.

 

Ouch. That was a really unfortunate showing by Moyuka. Hopefully it won’t kill all the confidence she has recently built up again.

Great to see Coco so dominant though. I hope she can herself rekindle some good form before her title defense in Riyadh.
