I've been getting them for a decade, and the 2002 edition is the best yet. There is still the odd mistake here and there, but overall it's a goldmine of info.
By contrast, the 1996 edition was, by far, the worst. It was a one-off (way off) bare bones edition, only half the size of each of the others. Player bios were trimmed to a single page, and only covered the main players. There were no singles and doubles draws from the slams and Chase, as there are in the other editions. Plus, a lot of other stuff was trimmed out.
Fortunately, that 1996 edition was the only one like that recently. But, still, how many potential customers decided to buy a guide for the first time that year, and wound up being put off by the lower-quality publication? It even got a derisive mention in Tennis Magazine ("the incredible shrinking player guide"), yet they didn't mention anything about when the guide returned to normal the following year, or when features were added in subsequent editions. Thus, anyone relying solely on Tennis Magazine for news would think the guide is still that bad.
