Does anyone know which players had the worst slam final record before finally winning one?
I have been looking for stats on this with both men and women and can’t seem to find anything on this
Please help if you can. Thanks

Novotna and Ivanisevic lost their 1st three as well. For all these players winning their 1st Slam was even sweeter after what came before. The Wimbledon crowd love it when a player comes back from a series of tough losses to emerge triumphant, and like Jana, Goran and Andy before her, Ons can become a sporting hero by winning Wimbledon the future. I believe she will.

Mens tennis doesnt have this stuff. The major winners are usually good players
WTA is loaded with slam winners who are rarely in top 10 besides the 50 weeks after the fluke major
but Vondy gets a chance now to show she is a legit Hall of Famer

Dude, Ruud is 0-3 literally, Lendl was 0-4, Murray was 0-4, Ivanisevic was 0-3, Thiem was 0-3...

Lendl lost his finals to Borg, Connors (twice), and Wilander before finally coming back from two sets to love down and beating McEnroe in the '84 French final. He then lost his next two Slam finals again to McEnroe and Wilander. It's a testament to his dedication and will that he was able to pick himself up, get to #1, and win more Slams after a 1-6 record in Slam finals until Aug 1985.

Marcel Granollers now 0-5 in men's doubles finals... :spitrofl:

This is clearly a tough place to be in, but I believe Ons can eventually win a slam! :cheer: With Casper, it really depends on who is on the other side of the net, as the match might not be on his racket.
Exactly. I believe he can win one day if he doesn’t meet Nadal/Djokovic/Alcaraz in the final.

pre-Open era, Simonne Mathieu lost her first five French Champs finals (today's Roland Garros) before finally winning twice in a row.

Doris Hart went 0-4 and 0-6 in singles and doubles respectively before finally winning a final and her partner Pauline Betz went 0-7 and never won a doubles Slam but did win in singles.

I think there's quite a few from these eras when there was often domination from a very few top players sweeping titles.

Among players who never won a GS title there are six men with 0-3 record in finals (four pre-WWII, one in late 40s/50s and Ruud). No male player who made a GS final at least four times lost all of them (which is Sukova's achievement among women).
