Impressive performance from Badosa. No problems in the first set and the second set was basically decided when Badosa held serve in a 12 deuce game four (Muchova wasted 5 BP).

Badosa has nothing more to defend for the rest of the season. Vamos! :cheer:

My head’s still spinning from that 12 deuce, 18+ minute game 😵‍💫 It was all but over for Muchova once she didn’t win it

Court 17 aka the Peter Colt Court produced a doozy of a game there (y)

difficult match where you feel both of them needed the win to build some momentum, ultimately Badosa is further along in her recovery path than Muchova is and it showed in their level today. With time Muchova will be back to playing her best tennis, wrist-permitting.

Badosa not defending anything for the next 5 months, needs to take every win she can

Badosa was super solid and clutch but the result is misleading. It was way closer than it looks just seeing the score. There was this almost 20 minute game at 2-1 second set where Muchova had 5 break points, but Badosa saved them with brave play.
Happy for Paula but sad for Kaja, I really hope she can get some consistency.
Badosa is having a very good Season considering everything.

I thought the 12 deuce game would never end. It almost made me want to come out of retirement at around the 8th or 9th deuce to show them how winning two points in a row at deuce is done :oh:

I like Paula a lot and I'm pleased for her but I'm so, so gutted for Karo 😭 I wish the draw had been kinder to her. With her out and Aryna not even able to start the sheen has rather gone off Wimbledon on the first day for me. I hate sport sometimes :hysteric: Looking on the bright side, Muchova and Badosa both seemed to get through the match without any obvious injury which I suppose is a win in itself.

Badosa played good but Muchie definitely played well below her B game, but like any pro athlete at this level, they try to come back to competition too soon after an injury when nursing the later stages of rehabs - but oh can we understand a girl like her with her glass body being impatient to play when not at 100%, knowing she got out of the courts half her entire career.............harsh karma........
