Looks good now. She always had talent. Just doesnt have the mental toughness to fight for close matches, like Pegula and Navarro have done

Bencic out

Zheng won't play Wuhan so Drova will start next week as #10

Tauson and Navarro could pass her with a F
Bencic and Osaka with the title
Noskova still alive in Beijing so if she does the double could do it too

all those scenarios assume Alexandrova doesn't go far

Might be time to pump the brakes for a bit as Alexandra Maniego Eala is only starting to crack the top-50.

If Alexandrova made the top 10 today she would have done so without ever:
  • making a slam QF
  • making the finals of a 1000
  • have more than one 500 title

Her consistency this season has actually been pretty remarkable as she's been pretty solid and made the finals of other 500s, but she would probably be the least accomplished player to make the top 10.

Other examples that people have cited here would still be more accomplished than her, even accounting for their accomplishments at the time they entered the top 10:
  • Kudermetova had a slam QF and one 500 title when she entered the top 10...so she has a slightly better resume
  • While Mladenovic was in the midst of an epic losing streak, she had two slam QF's and a 1000 final. So, more accomplished.
  • Haddad Maia made the top 10 after reaching a slam SF and making a 1000 final. More accomplished.
  • Kirilenko had made three slam QF's and a 500 title when she entered the top 10. More accomplished.
  • Georges had two 500 titles and had won the second-tier YEC (Elite Trophy) when she entered the top 10. More accomplished.
  • Vandeweghe had two slam QF's and two slam SF's when she entered the top 10. More accomplished.
  • Raducanu WON A SLAM. Next.
  • Bouchard made the top 10 after making the finals of Wimbledon and making it to the semis of the Australian and French right before. More accomplished.
  • Kasatkina had made the top 10 after making two slam quarters, winning two 500s, and making the finals of IW. She is more accomplished.

Alexandrova would be the least accomplished top 10 player in recent memory if she entered the top 10 right now. We can argue about why that is, and she may be a "better player" than others on the list, but her resume is extremely weak for someone who is about to be a top 10 player.

There always happens to be a Debbie Downer doesn't there. 😢
May as well retire then.

And even so, she'd still be the 10th most deservant player ranking points wise so that would tell more about the others who didn't rack up enough/more points than about her.
You'd still feel it's a light resume , sure, but it is as it is ... there's a wider point distribution between more capable players than in the past . Depth, they call it ... or something..

Avoided this jinx thread and only now read to through it all and Ostapenkoed everyone who was skeptical and wrong. LOL

suck it haters :) SHE DID IT :p

If she’s a weak top 10, that just means everyone else is weak including your faves above and below her for her to be able to make it!

The deed is done. CANT TAKE IT BACK.
