Respectfully, I'm a Canadian who has watched the Winter Games since 1988. I've seen poor sportsmaship in U.S. athletes in those Games to the point where their bronze medal winners pull them off and throw them on the ground. I'm wondering if U.S. athletes are somehow being taught to believe that only gold matters? All other countries celebrate silver and bronze medals. Just a thought.

 

If you are from God's Own country at the Olympics, you are on a hell of a lot of pressure.

If you win the Gold, you will be a multibillionaire forever in USA. If you win Silver, you may be a nobody and a loser.

The winner takes it all in america. There is a hell of a lot on the line for US athletes.

The media and officials have made a terrific job in the past 2 decades to convince the normal people, that Russia, China etc. are targeting the Olympics for propaganda and self serving, while the US are just the same. If they don't win, then the other must be cheating. All their athletes are raised, as if they are the best and if they lose, then there has to be some outside reason..

Regardless of that, these were regular WTA Tour pros, playing on the red clay at Roland Garros where no American has won the singles title since Serena (and she "only" won 3 titles here). Only Coco would have had any expectations of a singles medal. Having a Stars & Stripes flag on their outfit doesn't alter the odds or expectations.

 

And don't even get me started on how salty they are in swimming that China is taking over the US domination.

Based on population, Australia leads the medal tally by a mile. We only have 26 million people yet look at our medal tally. And every medal is prized, not just gold.
