I can see Mr. Calimero is some sort of Paralegal or legal Asssistant or legal Clerk somewhere, because he does seem to have absorved some basic principles of contract law by walking the office. Or perhaps he is just the janitor and learnt something by eavesdropping.
In any event he does asks the right question here. Whatever Mr Macci was "supposed to get" has to be clearly specified in a written contract. It could be a verbal agreement too, but that'd make it more complicated for him.And given the out of court settlement and the fact that it escaped the gossip press, it means that he probably didn't get much. In other words the lucky bastard did get screwed by the sis. Ouch!

Tennis coaches feeling 'shafted'. That's funny. They aren't teaching kids out of altruism. He gave Venus and Serena scholarship to his 'academy' because he ultimately thought it would make HIM money. He made a deal with Richard Williams, and got every penny he was contractually entitled to.

This is business. Macci and Bolletieri take money from people who mortgage their homes for lessons, when the coach knows damn well their kid will never be a pro. The only people in the industry I have less sympathy for than coaches are agents.

I think you mean the owners of the Tennis Schools' who most of the time do not bother even to coach, unless you are a potential star. That's what Bolletieri does.
Why are you bothered by the agents? What sort of horrible things you imagine they do? All they do is to work their asses off to maximize their clients incomes. They have to, they get paid on comissions.

Somehow, I have my doubts that a big commercial TV channel like E!, would air something on the basis of hearsay. By doing so, they'd open themselves up to potential defamation legal action. I don't think the channel's lawyers would allow such a program to be aired under these circumstances.

You misunderstand how Nick's operation works. He sold ownership of his academy to IMG (in the early 90's, I think). So the suits from the parent company are the ones giving out scholarships, though obviously they seek Nick's advice on who gets them. (He does get a bonus if his graduates become IMG clients as pro's, and generate ova X dollars for the company).

So when the company itself was screwed by Anna jumping to Octagon (around '99, I think) sure that cost him some bling, too. Re. Sharky, the only coach perhaps getting the shaft has been Robert Lansdorp in southern California, who she's gone to for "tune-ups" every year. (She's played WTT for Newport Beach every July, 2B proximate to him during their "homestands").

And once again, Macci may or may not have have gotten a raw deal (I don't know what the agreement had been) but his well-known role in their careers surely helped him land other clients. Maybe he's mad because he gave other parents % of future income deals, but those kids never generated much, if any.

Rick Macci screwed himself. It was his responsibility to get a proper legal contract. He shoud have known this as a pro. And in the interviews I have seen with him he does accept responsibility for not having done so.
