Probably the only grand slam final I'll ever attend and this is what I get...

Keys first final she was a mess, so was Gauff. This is not unusual when a player is in their first major final
Now Swiatek, Gauff or Keys can be Player of the Year if they win in NY
Sabalenka needs to win NY to make the YEC the key tournament

I feel you. I had tickets to the 2012 US Open final which ended up being the Serena/Azarenka classic and missed it because of the rain delay to the next day (my dad wouldn't let us extend the trip as I had to go back to college lol). Then I finally get to see a Grand Slam final in person and it was the Sloane/Keys 2017 US Open final. That was already a letdown with the beating (had been rooting so hard for Venus to make that final), but it made it worse with how bad it was and knowing what I could have seen in 2012).

I've gone to the US Open final every year since 2017 minus the Covid tournament and they're unfortunately more clunkers than not, at least for that major. I hope you get the chance to see another one in person and a good one at that!

That's the risk.

For me it's way better to attend early rounds. Yeah, the matches aren't usually between top players but you can see a lot of them and if you are not enjoying the match you can go to another court.

Actually you attended an epic final that would be remembered and referred for years to come. :lol2:

Instead of complaining, you should appreciate the moment and the beauty of this sport. Matches like this happen once every 50 years. We witnessed history. I was born when Steffi won her slam final with 6-0 6-0. This is special. Regardless of whether you are a fan of Swiatek or not. I prefer these kind of matches in finals than something like Jabeur vs Vondrousova, that no one would remember.

Look, I'm probably never going to be in a position to watch a Wimbledon final (for now), but I really don't get why people always complain. Is it the length? I doubt these people wouldn't complain if the final was a 3hr slugfest between Haddad Maia and Sorribes Tormo. This was a historic 6-0 6-0 beatdown involving a generational talent. Is it really better if it was a routine 6-3 6-2 in 80 minutes?

That's the risk one takes I assume with a final. I always assume ppl just don't like/prefer other players than the ones playing/their faves lost so there's already negative bias and resentment

Sensing a pattern here as I attended the 2022 Roland Garros final and was similarly disappointed by Iga's beatdown of Coco in maybe the only Slam final I'll ever see live as well.

A) I don't believe you (I have been to a women's final)
B) Those who were there also got
  • a chance to soak up the atmosphere of a historic tennis site before the first match
  • a men's double match
  • the theatre that is Wimbledon:- The women's match build up, the theatrical presentation ceremony, the British high society in action

Overall you would have got about 5 hours of entertainment.
