Naomi's star keeps rising! Solidifying herself as the new face of the WTA, Osaka has now passed Eugenie Bouchard in follower count on Instagram (although when you add Twitter, her combined total is still a lot less than Genie).

She still has almost 9 million less than her idol WW though (2.2 million versus 13 million), so a long way to go there. But she's still seen explosive growth; approximately 1 million new followers in the past year if I'm not mistaken, and I'm sure the social media rise can't hurt her already enormous endorsement portfolio.

Williams, Osaka, and Bouchard as faces of the tour is a nice and fairly diverse group, but also explains the WTA's relative lack of prominence in Europe these days.

Eugenie's growth has been relatively flat lately. Hopefully she can do something like win a slam or come up with another Hollywood fairytale story soon to keep growing her enormous following!

EDIT: Just realized Sania Mirza is second of all players (though she doesn't play singles anymore); she actually has 7 million followers! Why isn't the WTA promoting her more?!

Naomi (or Mari) started a new IG account last week... teamnaomi_jp - it's all in Japanese, so I'm not sure what's being said on it.
Seems like a behind the scenes look at stuff going on with Naomi, not sure why that stuff couldn't just be put on her main account.

It's normal for many pop stars to have additional Japanese accounts, probably to please Japanese fans, a huge and dedicated market. Naomi barely posts anything in JPN from what I've seen so that's how she can connect more to the public and her followers.x

Goes to show you how poor is Genie's management if Naomi has surpassed her

Maria (4.2) has more than Osaka. She's #3 after Serena and Sania.

Overall in General Singles it's:
1. Serena 13m
2. Rafa 10m
3. Federer 8m
4. Djokovic 8m
5. Sania 7m
6. Sharapova 4m
7. Naomi Osaka 2m
8. Eugenie 2m

Sharapova is retired and this forum is about the WTA.

Also wtf about blocking people. That is batshit. If Naomi is into this cancel culture bullshit then I respect her less :(

Wait that is seriously crazed. My respect for her goes out the window if she's done that wtf.

She does that all the time , I have read many tweets about people who are also blocked by naomi or her team.
The time she blocked me was in the time she was very busy with replaying on others and I said something that she must focus on her tennis instead of replaying to so many people and that she looks a little instabile and then she blocked me :ROFLMAO:

Well... a 4 times slam champion, who lives and grew up in USA while competing for Japan (so basically having a potential base of 350 mil USA users + 120 mil Japan users) BARELY surpasses a one time slam finalist from Canada ( population approx 40 mil. )

And somehow this thread is yet another (hidden) attempt at bashing Genie? She is incredibly famous given her achievements, and most of it is due to her personality and good looks... just deal with it!

In one thread about retarded bettors sending hateful mails at professional tennis players people say pro athletes shouldn't accept messages from others or better yet not do social media, but when a player blocks a bunch of accounts from her personal account then it is now "cancel culture"...............err, I need the facepalm emo, lots of them. Since when did shit spewed on Twitter become culture, like ever?

Sheesh, I'm a fan but I don't even bother to check instagram or twitter of any of my favs...if something that actually matters and is worth checking, someone will mention it here anyway.

LMAO it's her personal social media and she can do whatever the hell she wants. y'all. are. mad! and for what. if someone was sending you hateful messages on a social media app, you'd block them too

Osaka has also blocked my 11-year-old niece on Instagram ... I thought it was an isolated case but I find out that there are many more who were blocked by Naomi. o_O That is so strange!

Naomi blocked many more then only your niece. She also blocked her true diehard fans who where a little bit critical. Maybe she doesn’t do this herself but her sis or pr manager? I hope she has better things to do then her spare time use to read and block social media accounts. It doesn’t matter at all that she blocked me but as a celebrity its better to not read much social media and block all negativity out

Here we go again with your delirious comments about an IG personality like Bouchard who has won just an MM in her whole career. Winning a slam??? I've never seen anyone more delusional than you. Not even the Sharapova stans defending her cheating records come close🤷‍♂️

Naomi and this blocking thing... It seems a bit silly and she could probably be spending her time on something more useful...

BUT! Sometimes you can just be scrolling through your timeline or mentions, you'll see a dumb comment someone makes which sparks curiosity. So you look at their profile and see what else they've been saying, liking, retweeting, etc and then you see how much of a lowlife that person is and think 'let me not see this person ever again' and just block them for simply being a pesky troll with crappy opinions.

It is Naomi's account and she can block whoever she wants. She is not a public property owned by a government entity that entitles people to say whatever they want about her on her social media page. She can set the terms what would be accepted or not. You have every right to say whatever you want to say about Naomi but if it is on her platform, then she reserves that right.

But! how much time does Naomi really have to block all these people? She must sit and read through every single post to block it. LOL.

Of course she can block who she wants but she is also blocking people who are not tweet to her. Who are not following her and who are not visible in her timeline. So its strange for any celeb to have the time and energy to search at your own name and read everything about you and then you decided who you will block. That was exactly the reason why I tweet that about her and surprisly she picked that up. That was kind of funny but also strange that she has so much time on her hands to read that all. For a celeb its better to block all social media and negativity out of your system and ignore all those idiots who have a opinion about you.
