No....there should be no ranking points awarded for the Olympics. The players have certainly earned the right to represent their country and earn an Olympic medal. They have done so by playing well over time and earning a higher ranking as opposed to their colleagues in the sport. Homever....it is reduced draw in the Olympics....a draw of 64 I believe...with o qualifying tourney.. The tour events .....from the Grand Slams to the 125 events....all have qualifying draws....which allow players to earn a spot each and every particular week. So if ranking points were awarded at the Olympics....higher ranked players would have an unfair advantage over the lower ranked players to pick up points I also believe that the Olympics "caps" the number of players from any one nation? I understand why it is done at the Olympics....but this can eliminate some higher ranked players? who may have earned a spot strictly on rankings, not nationality thereby denying them an opportunity to earn ranking points. Now....for those of you who will argue about "the ranking" during Covid.

....let me save you some typing here.....we all know the rankings are skewed because of Covid.....but as I believe it difficult to factor in a global pandemic......get stuffed on THAT issue please.
The Grand Slams...for example.....have a main draw of 128 players.....104 of which come from the rankings. A second full draw of 128 players then compete for 16 qualifying spots, with 8 WC. So 248 individuals get a chance to compete for a spot at a Slam....and 8 others get a MD wild card....for a total of 256 individuals. This is extremely fair, and reflects "peaks and valleys" of different players throughout the season....some who perform better on different surface. You have to EARN your spot....either through higher ranking from the season....or playing to get a qualifying spot. It is also very democratic and objective....avoiding picking "favourites" largely....outside of the 8 WC. Even some of those are traditionally given to players who win certain tourneys every year.
If it wasn't for this system.....corruption would run rampant in the game....giving parasites like IMG even more influence than they already have. ALL the tournaments have this qualifying draw set up. As the Olympics is a unique tournament that comes around only once every 4 years. it is just fine the way it is this time in Tokyo from a rankings perspective. anyone who argues differently is either stupid, or has a favourite who is "losing out" on points in Tokyo.
