The carbs from that first set breadstick must've energised Iga, as she recovers to win both a close match and the Seoul title!

I know how she feels.

Iga was playing quite bad and Alexandrova was truly peaking in some parts of the match. However Drova being Drova she’s done her choking as well. She didn’t really choke the match away as she was still playing some great points even towards the end of the match, but Iga really found a way to win.

I think Iga started to target Alexandrova’s backhand more since like 4-4 of the third set, hitting some high fhdtl shots instead of her usual crosscourt spinny ball as it’s clearly not working. Drova was hitting forehand winners left and right like no tomorrow. I thought Iga is unable to change during the match but today she proved me wrong.

A nice, sweet, and gracious speech from Alexandrova despite the devastating loss.

I am deeply saddened but the showing is so much better than other people expected. Drova really could have and should have won this. But her mentality is not incredible and Iga wins in this category through and through.

wish people would respect Alexandrova more though. The number of people expecting bagels was just ridiculous

Is anyone really surprised? It just feels more unfortunate than usual because it truly feels like the slim chance of Katya making the Top 10 seems to have passed with this loss. She is still #10 in the race but not too far ahead of players like Svitolina or Osaka that have proven that they can go on a deep run in the 1000s events than she has plus she has that Wuhan QF to defend. I truly hope her team will help her to put this loss behind her as quickly as possible. At least she had quite a few of these in the past so it is nothing brand new although this one probably stings a bit more as it would have been probably the most meaningful win of her career.

I really thought my most painful era as a tennis fan would be over once Sveta K vanished from the tour but at least she got a few of the big wins on her resume. For Katya they just seem entirely elusive.

Congrats to Iga! She is an absolute all time great of this sport and proved her worth once more tonight.

Literally even Iga says she doesn’t know how she won.

just putting that out there for all you goddamn haters.

But this wasn’t a NID match

Iga wasn't playing her best and for most of the match Alexandrova was the better player. However in the key moments Iga showed why she is one of the top tennis players in the world.

To me Ekaterina Alexandrova is a player who can beat anyone. She is a very difficult opponent and I think most players don't want to face her because she has a very unpredictable game. In my opinion she should have been in the top 10 a long time ago but she needs to start playing better in Grand Slams.

Iga should hit 30 titles next season. Very likely she passes Wozniacki’s number of titles in 2026/2027 and then probably Sharapova’s 36 too within the next 3 years.
