That match gave me somehow Ostrava final 2022 vibes against Krejcikova. But this time with a better ending for Iga. Bad things from this match: the serve overall (but in some moments it saved her) and bad timing. She was too late in too many occasions. Good things: her fighting spirit.

Winning ugly. People complained she doesn’t do it and this was it. Glad to see

What is going on with Iga? Some of her performances recently have been so bad... she was the worse player in all three sets.

Wim might actually be a fraud. Iga peaked in the grass season as she was finally able to play with freedom - there was no pressure, no points to defend and she looked like she finally put the doping scandal behind her. But her serve has looked inconsistent since and often just plain bad. I'm not sure if her game looks any better than it did before & I'm not convinced he will be the one to fix it unless they hire a technical consultant.

Are you kidding? She’s flourished on faster sources, they have made minor tweaks to her game that have paid dividends.

This match would have looked like the Miami scoreline from 2024, had she not been working on aspects of her game, thanks to Wim.

Her serve has been a work in progress for a long while. It still is she’s still working on it so you’ll get days like yesterday where it’s amazing and days like today where it’s less so.

To be fair, her serving in the semi-final against Maya Joint was terrific (86% 1st serves in), but it did definitely fall back badly today.

But she still won. Yes she needs to work on it for China swing but her attitude and confidence are great.

It's unbelievable how people can't fathom the simple fact that there never was and never will be a player, who plays well in all their matches. NEVER.

Are Iga's overall results with Wim better on fast surfaces (which was specifically the goal of his hiring)? Obviously yes. Yet some weirdos will continuosly claim she plays bad, based on the 3 matches she lost or even the ones she actually won.

They think 2022 is the norm for her and measure her agains this always.

You clearly don't want to understand, that the change in player's game doesn't happen overnight. And that's okay, you don't have to. But the simple fact is, that for Iga this actually is a work-in-progress year, during which she wants to adjust her tennis to fit more difficult surfaces and opponents. And that was the plan all along.

Also, you seem to forget how everyone was saying Iga "can't serve" and especially how her second serve is "pathetic". I don't see too many people saying that now. In fact, it was specifically serving that got her out of trouble even today at multiple pressure points in the second and third set.

Did her slow HC and clay season suffer because of those adjustments she was making? Sure they did, but then with all that work-in-progress she already managed to win two of the titles people were saying she would never win.

I don’t think her poor performance in the start of the year had much to do with making her game more fast court ready, I think it had everything to do with pressure (first half of 2024 was her next most dominant run after 2022), a mix of a lot of personal things and the hang over of the doping ban and coach change.

Athletes careers aren't linear.

Exactly. Her serve showed up yesterday in both of her matches. Against Rybakina in Cinci, in a few matches at the US Open. They are making changes to it so, it won’t be super consistent atm.

So 5ga won a tennis tournament missing the #1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 ranked players. Rates a gigantic nothingburger. If she thinks this is some type of momentum, she'll have a stark reality check next week when the sports-washing month of subsidized fans, inflated paychecks, and better players come for the same loot, and quickly displace her.

She’s won 3/6 events she’s played all with strong friends. Made a final of one other. Lol wtf. Even if she doesn’t win in Beijing she won’t win everything? Hateful take yet again
