Iga is currently making sacrificial offerings to the Gods of Tennis to ensure that Elena wins.

 

I think that if Iga is really begging the gods of tennis (note to poster it's sacrilegious to capitalize 'god' when not referring to a recognized accepted deity) to bring about the requested outcome, then such supplication would fall under the category of: "careful what you wish for". Elena is just as capable as Ostapenko of defeating the defending champion. In fact considering that Jelena has a 6-0 H2H advantage, coupled with instinct awareness that such winning streaks must eventually come to an end, I would suggest that Elena has a better chance of defeating the defending champion. So, as one who would be delighted to see an early exit of Ms. Świątek, I'm picking Elena to prevail in this match.

 

Penko will be so motivated, I'm going with her in 3, expecting a tough battle.

 

Genuinely nothing against Elena but idk a better time for one of her random allergies.

Worth noting that Ryba won 3 in a row in 2023. It was a great year from her though, she was in the zone, in the 1st half at least: F of AO, almost got the Sunshine Double, W Rome..

 

Fishy looked interested tonight but also did in AO until she lost interest.... with Penko there's just no way of knowing... that R4 lip licker could have been more straight-forward.

I feel much safer with Ostapenko but Rybakina is not a bad substitute.

I'll root for Elena and wished she had an easier opponent that early in the tournament but tbh neutrally speaking and not thinking ahead of the R4, this is an amazingly juicy matchup for a third round.

Also, they had at least some mild beef in 2023 in case some forgot...

 

As much as I like Elena, we all know she will not beat Iga. I hope Jelena would be so motivated in this match, knowing that Iga is waiting in the next round.

I would normally prefer Rybs to win, but she'll probably do nothing even if she wins this match, while Penko is much more interesting to have in the draw, for the match against Swiatek alone, and also to see how far she can go if she beats her.

 

Osta often struggles with match-ups like this - all out ace servers, that put her own service games under lots of pressure, who also rush her from the baseline and give her little time to execute. Unless Osta is firing (and serving very well), Rybakina will win this if she comes to play.

 

Ostapenko beat Sabalenka for the first time 6-4 6-1 in the Stuttgart final. Let’s not overrate the current Rybakina.

I like both but I always hate it when Penko gets knocked out. I chose Aljona in 3 but that could be wishful thinking.
