Let's make a thread to watch Vika rise up the rankings:bounce:
Vika fell down 1 spot this week and she is now #9:sad::sad::sad:
She is #5 in the race:D and #20 in doubles;)

#2 ·
this week she is playing in Rome. No matter how she does, it will count towards her ranking. You can see here, which tournaments in the past 52 weeks she has played and how well she did:
http://www.hantuchova-fan.com/azarenka-fan/Points.php
Berlin 2008 will come off as Rome 2009 points are added, and as Vika doesn't play many tournaments a year, she doesn't have any back-up tournaments.
Next week is Madrid which is mandatory. Rome 2008 points will fall off as they get "too old".

BTW, Vika rank tracker from when she entered top20:
http://www.hantuchova-fan.com/azarenka-fan/Ranking.php

it took her 45 weeks to get from top20 to top10. I'm trying to compare that number to other players. So far I've only checked A. Radwanska. It only took her 18 weeks.

Once again Vika is at #8:D

#4 ·
Vika has defended her R32 from last year, so any more victories at Wimbledon for Vika will be a bonus:D

#6 ·
Vera is at 5400 points when the next ranking comes out.

If Vika loses in the R16, Vika is at: 4846
If Vika loses in the QF, Vika is at: 5066
If Vika loses in the SF, Vika is at: 5466
If Vika loses the final, Vika is at: 5966
If Vika wins Wimbledon: 6566

So Vika needs a SF at least to pass Vera.
Wozniacki is close to Vika. Only 66 points or something like that behind her, so if Caro advance one round or more better than Vika, Vika and Caro will shift places in the rankings.
The gap between 7 and 8 is rather big unfortunately so she needs good results to advance in the rankings. But only Wozniacki is close from behind. The gap to Petrova at 10 is big.

Thanks, Christina:)
With Vera, JJ, and Sveta out now, Vika can make a big move up the ranks:)

#10 ·
If Wozniacki wins Bastad she'l only be 6 points behind Vika, assuming Vika has no points coming off next week.

#13 ·
Thankfully Vika doesn't have anything coming off next week:)

#11 ·
:scared:

Here is what Vika has to defend from now until the US Open:
140 points-Los Angeles
390 points-Toronto (Montreal)
96 points-Olympics
180 points-US Open

Combined: 806 points

Here is what Vera Zvonareva has to defend this Summer:
2 points-Stanford (not in Best 16)
70 points-Los Angeles
2 points-Toronto (Montreal) (not in Best 16)
350 points-Olympics
120 points-US Open

Combined: 540 points

So it will tough for Vika to overcome her:(

#15 ·
Jankovic:
250 points-Los Angeles
220 points-Toronto (Montreal)
180 points-Olympics
1400 points-US Open

Combined: 2,050

There's a very good chance that Vika will pass her :D

#16 ·
Kuznetsova:
220 points-Toronto (Montreal)
2 points-Olympics (not in Best 16 though)
180 points-US Open

Combined: 400 points

That's going to be really hard to overcome:(

#17 ·
Dementieva barely has points to defend, and let's not think about the Williams sisters and Safina.
Now let's look at how many points players ranked lower than Vika (Ivanovic, A.Radwanska, Petrova, Wozniacki, ...)

#18 ·
Aga Radwanska:
100 points-Stockholm
56 points-Olympics
280 points-US Open

Combined: 436 points

She could pass Vika with a good Summer :scared:

#19 ·
Wozniacki:
40 points-Bad Gastein
100 points-Portoroz
230 points-Stockholm
96 points-Olympics
550 points-New Haven
280 points-US Open

Combined: 1,296 points

It will be hard for her to pass Vika :)

#20 ·
Petrova:
2 points-Stanford (not in Best 16)
140 points-Los Angeles
120 points-Toronto (Montreal)
280 points-Cincinatti
180 points-US Open

Combined: 720 points

She probably won't pass Vika;)

#21 ·
Pennetta:
100 points-Palermo
380 points-Los Angeles
70 points-Toronto (Montreal)
2 points-Olympics (not in Best 16)
70 points-New Haven
500 points-US Open

Combined: 1,120 points

I am 99% sure she won't be ahead of Vika by the end of the Summer;)

#22 ·
Ivanovic:
120 points-Toronto (Montreal)
120 points-US Open

Combined: 240 points

It'll be very hard for her NOT to pass Vika...

#23 ·
Bartoli:
380 points-Stanford
390 points-Toronto (Montreal)
2 points-Cincinatti (not in best 16)
140 points-New Haven
280 points-US Open

Combined: 1,190 points

She'll need to do really good to pass Vika, even that might not be enough :)

#24 ·
Cibulkova (last one) :
140 points-Stanford
40 points-Los Angeles
600 points-Toronto (Montreal)
96 points-Olympics
2 points-New Haven (not in Best 16)
180 points-US Open

Combined: 1,056 points

I don't see her passing Vika this Summer;)

#25 ·
Now when you take off Summer 2008 points from everyone that I named, Vika jumps over Jankovic, and no one over takes her. I said before that it will be hard to pass Vera, but considering her current form it could happen :)

#26 ·
Thanks for that summary Hellas. JJ and Vera both have alot to defend after the US open - remember JJ won those 3 tournaments in a row last year in China, Stuttgart and Moscow while Vera also had good runs in tournaments towards the end of last season and the YEC.
