Khromacheva (no.28 in doubles) after losing to Badosa/Muchova and them withdrawing right after: "Without respect to doubles players"

I kinda agree with her. Just like I don't like it when players withdraw midway through the tournament and this robs us of a match.

At the same time, if someone who plays for match practice handles you as easily and then withdraws, maybe you are just not good enough. I fully understand her frustration as doubles players for sure struggle to make a living getting much less checks while being in the top 50 of the doubles rankings, but that's how it is. What Badosa/Muchova did is somewhat cocky, but complaining of it as the loser is just not necessary.

I looked it up. She made $1.2M in career earnings alone over a ten year career. The average disposable income in an Eastern European country over the same time frame is about $180k. So unless she paid over a million dollar in expenses over the same time frame, she´s still ahead of the average person, while travelling the whole world.

The point is not that she's complaining as a loser of the match, she's complaining as a player who takes doubles seriously, regardless of winning or losing.
Just imagine that Badosa's (& Muchy's) attitude became generalized among singles players; they would take up half of the doubles draw, to retire in the second round. What do you get then? A pair that wins the tournament by W/O against all their rivals, the one that wins the first round and does not retire takes the prize. It is not even close to my ideal competition.
Besides from the fact that, as a sideshow to the main event, it would only work in the first rounds and not in the last days of competition, when they NEED to fill the schedule.

I agree but I wonder if she would have complained if she were the receiver of that W/O :oh: integrity of the sport my ass. You can't convince me this is mostly sour graping.

Actually I do hope more singles players take doubles more seriously. That way "serious" doubles players like Kromacheva would have to drop down to ITFs, or seriously raise her level to compete at the main tour.

It's truly amazing how many people think that it's perfectly fine to enter a draw while knowing when you enter that you will withdraw after 1 or 2 matches; while having absolutely no intention to play out your commitment.
Absolutely amazing.
And these people claim to care about tennis! It's extremely obvious that they don't give a damn about tennis, as they refuse to look deeper than the very juvenile "Oh she's just complaining because she lost" perspective.
Wow.

These same people would likely be the first ones to object and complain if this kind of bullshit occurred in any other sport.
Sigh...

Pleased for her, that means a lot.

Another doubles final loss to Pegula, she doesn't actually win that many titles.

Danilina/Khromacheva are #11 in the race and go up to #8 if they win Ningbo. :hysteric:

I don't think they'd be able to qualify though - #8 is Siniakova/Townsend who won Wimbledon and I assume they qualify directly for Riyadh. Can imagine another instagram rant if that happens. :oh:

Danilina and Kromacheva give the walkover this time
Fellow dbs players could have played instead...yikes
I don't think it's the same. Also it's first round, if there was an alternate pair, they would have been replaced instead of WO
Definitely not the same. The pdf copy of the draw shows that Danilina withdrew because of gastro-intestinal illness.

The same excuse Badosa used in Wuhan
