Easily her worst match of the year. Serve totally collapsed in the 3rd set. I don’t see her beating Sakkari tomorrow considering their H2H + how much these conditions favour Maria’s strengths.

WTA relaunched itself this week ??? - this match was an appalling advertisement for it as they are using Gauff hugely with this promotion.

As mentioned before this generation has regressed so badly - the quality/ technique of these players is shocking,

A win is a win but that was simply ghastly from Coco. 74 errors, 21 double faults. Shanks missing the court by feet. Routine short balls in the middle of the court dumped into the net or hit right back to Uchijima. Squandered 3 match points and a 4-0 lead in the final set. Even her footwork looked sluggish today. If Uchijima hadn't been struggling physically, this may have had a different outcome.

I don't understand how her game has fallen completely off a cliff since United Cup, truly baffling. Whatever her and her team are doing right now, it's not working!

I think conditions matter a lot for her. Finals and United Cup were both indoors. Her issues with the serve and forehand can probably be managed a lot more in those circumstances. She'll probably have another strong end to the season after everyone writes her off :dunno:

I was quite impressed with Uchijima‘a tactics today. Obviously Coco was very poor, by her own admission as well, but Moyuka did a good job of exploiting/targeting the Gauff weaknesses as they were falling apart which is something opponents sometimes fail to do well enough when they have the opportunity

I watched a bit of the third set and Cori was leading 4-0 with UCHIJIMA injured then see this result :spitrofl:
