I just am not a big fan of Sakkari, can appreciate her hard work and dedication but don't think I will ever warm up to her. Prideless Tournament not in the literal sense but more about how people have used that term to describe how messy this tournament has been.

 

1. Samsonova - very hard working girl, really needs to start backing up her amazing grass performances from last year (Berlin 500 Win, Wimbledon R4 as WC). Had rough draws this year and circumstances (wind in Australia and Dubai, heat in Australia) that didn't fit her well. Has the weapons, amazing groundstrokes and the biggest serve of the tour. Deserves more recognition/support.

2. Halep - very respectful player, by far the best out of the "big old 4" (Halep, Azarenka, Kvitova, Kerber) right now. Great match against Gauff, hopefully no injuries.

3. Kuder - hard working girl, good results this year. Works a lot on her game, improved serve massively this year (not just bashing/as hard as possible, but more precision, placement and variety). Plays doubles to improve her net game, volleying and serving as well. Was super respectful against an annoying Osaka in R1. Deserves more recognition/support.

4. Saville - love her fighting spirit, always gives 100%. Great competitor on the court, and great story with the comeback after so many rough injuries and breaks.

5. Sakkari - always plays great tennis, completely underrated by TF and does not have many fans despite producing great results. Needs titles to gain more respect.

6. Badosa - very nice person on and off-the court, brilliant work ethic (spends lot of time in gym), always gives a lot of insider information in interviews. Just generally fantastic person and player, would be higher if she hadn't won so much already recently and others wouldn't need it more.

7. Rybakina - very quiet, silent girl but plays amazing tennis. Similar to Samsonova, but more successful already and less errors. Great behavior against crying Azarenka.

8. Iga - nice girl, incredible talent, always gives everything.

I'd be delighted to see any of Rybakina, Swiatek, Fernandez, or Vondrousova take the title - in roughly that order.

I'd be glad for Sakkari, Kerber, Halep, Keys, or Badosa to take it - also roughly in that order.

I'd feel odd about Dart, Cirstea, Martic, Golubic, Samonsova, Sgavrilleova, and Kudermetova winning it (in roughly that order), less as a matter of disliking any of them in any way, shape, or form, and more for not feeling they are 'up' for a big title like this at the moment.

But if they take the title, they'll certainly have earned it - that's how it works.

I'd prefer this didn't happen honestly, but a this stage of the tournament this isn't in truth a bad worse case scenario.

Overall, I really like this final 16 a lot, more than I do in most big events actually. There are a lot of players here I feel very positively about and hardly any I dislike. Okay I'm not a fan of Samsonova's but even she wouldn't go into a list of my top 10 least favourite current players. Basically there are 13 players here I like to varying degrees, 2 I have mixed feelings about and I'm basically neutral about and just one I feel mildly negative about. Is Indian Wells worst tournament of the year? Hell, no!!!
