She has applied for it, had gotten it. It will be #10.

Source: The WTA. I emailed them and they answered.

Does that mean she gets special seedings as well in tournaments

No.

There's no injury protected seedings anymore.

The injury protected ranking is used to get into the main draws; but it has nothing to do with seeding. So, Cappy will probably not have any byes
for a while. This is what happened to Justine in 2005. Kim wasn't out
long enough so couldn't get any the IPR; but they gave her tons of WC's.
She used her WC's, but there were no byes for her either.

No you are wrong. Kim never got 'tons' of wild cards, she didn't need them. She made Antwerp md on her own ranking, IW and Miami she also made on her own ranking because entry lists are done 6 weeks before a tournament and 6 weeks before IW & Miami her ranking was good enough to make the cutoff for those events. Kim's ranking only dropped out of the top 100 after Antwerp. Kim only got 1 wild card, Warsaw, as 6 weeks before Warsaw she was out of the top 100. Although by the time Warsaw was acutally held Kim was seeded. So obviously from Berlin on her IW, Miami run was over 6 weeks prior meaning that Kim was ranked high enough to get into whatever she wanted.

if cap is 10, then what's venus's and serena's rank? they're currently 10 and 11 i think
IJR only counts for getting into tournaments, not for seeding. All three of them get into any tournament they want, but it'll be a while before JCap is seeded in anything.

how did they give her tons of WC she was given 3 Antwerp, IW, Miami and she won the latter 2 getting herself back to top 20 and then not needing any WC's

Sorry (cough, cough)

I meant to post that she was given WC's, and it was to be open for how
ever long she needed it during the 2005 season. This was my original intention of using the careless phrase "tons".

I don't follow her career as closely as you do, so it was my mistake. No need to be offended, and there was nothing remotely offensive in this minor mistake. Anyway, Thank you for clearing the stats. As you said with each tournament win, she moved up, and by April the WC's were not needed.

(The WC is mainly a soft back-up that is beneficial to the tournament directors, and a player closer to the deadline or after the entry deadline of an event. But, often times if it's someone say like Justine or maybe Jen in 2006- they personally would prefer to ride on the INJURY PROTECTED RANKING benefit, and not take a local tournament's WC's. It should be given as a courtesy to younger or local players at tournaments, and not horded by bigger stars.)

Anyway- Good luck Jen.

It won't effect Williams if she if Jen does not get seeded at Slams. Even if she did get seeded at slams it wouldn't effect them as they are seeded outside of the top 8 anyway

Jen's comeback is closer and closer! :)

What? so she doesn't have to work her way up the rankings to be number 10? Thats not fair. injury is part of a professional players lifestyle, they shouldn't be given free 'passes' to stay high in the rankings. That means that another player drops in the rankings becauseof Capriati.

TUT TUT Not Fair

it doesnt mean that

what Protected Rank means is that she can get into 8 WTA events without the use of a WC. Plus she's allowed one Grand Slam in addition as she missed 3 slams in a row.
its not an actual ranking but just used for entry purposes.

It's totally fair - it's based on the ranking she had when she first left the tour due to the injury.
