Such a shame. Despite the knee hyper extension Babs bossed the match and led 6-1, 4-2 before Kessler realised she needed to hit from side to side or drop shot as Babs could not move very well. Kessler did start playing a lot better and Babs struggled more and more. Once Kessler win the second set it was over..
Yeah, it took a long time for Kessler to realize this and stop hitting balls straight at Krejcikova and waiting for her to take the initiative. But that return game when she was 3-4 down where she hit three amazing winners, two that painted the line, was the turning point. She still struggled with her serve, there was some games with barely any first serve and she hit some double faults but she got more confident off the ground and ultimately Krejcikova couldn’t continue.
never can understand, why tennis players risk their health and career to play some average match. not like that was a grand slam final. but for Babs even the GS final doesn't worth getting injured.
Poor Babs getting injured again. Should close the season and take time off to recuperate in Prague and be back in peak-shape to finally take the AO title. Babs never won down under in 10 appearances.
Wait so she injured herself basically in the first game? And then proceeded to play two more full sets only to retire in the end? Wtf Barbie... Probably done more damage in the knee than necessary and for what exactly.
Babs missed a relatively easy smash in the middle of the 2nd set, and things started to unravel quickly from there. Kessler did do very well to claw her way back. Even though Babs was injured she was striking the ball very well still. Once things became difficult, there was little fight from Babs.
Gutted Krej injured herself, but not so gutted about her losing her lead in this match as resting is the best option anyway. I am hoping the injury isn't too bad and that she will play out the rest of the season! It felt like she was onto some great things in the Asian swing.
