You wait 603 days and 25 matches for a win, and then two come in one tournament.

It was Zhang who looked like the US Open semi-finalist out there, raining down winners on Navarro.

If somebody told you that somebody would go on a 24 match losing streak and beat a top out of nowhere they would call you crazy or somebody who watches too much WTA.

Anyhow that was a who's your auntie moment against the comeback queen.

Just shows the depth of the WTA is as great as it's ever been, and likely as great as it'll ever be :hehehe:

How could you lose 24 consecutive matches and then suddenly defeat the world No. 8?

Auntie Shuai didn't necessarily treat Navarro or the sport with respect. :oh:
Is Navarro losing to WTA595 more shocking than last year Ostapenko losing to Dayeon Back WTA569 in Seul?

Tennis is all about confidence and the mental side. It's like flipping a switch. Shuai has awoken from her slumber, winning just one match made all the difference. She has beaten top players before (see Halep), it was always there somewhere.

Maybe the wheels have finally fallen off the Navarro train. She was originally planning to play Guadalajara and Seoul before Beijing but missed both, so there must have been more to those withdrawals than we realise. Now chances for Qinwen to at least make up some of the gap.

Zhang Shuai herself in her most recent interview was like "Maybe God has a plan" HAHAHAHA

Woooooooooooo, WIN THE WHOLE THING NOW. ~Anything~ can happen in the WTA.

Navarro’s top 10 debut was in ruins. She yet to learn how to be top 10. Congratulations to Shuai, incredible! She really stepped up and helped her little sister Qinwen big time. It’s up to Qinwen to make it to WTA final.

Shuai back into the top 430, she is hard on the heels of Urszula Radwanska right now!
Also on the heels of Amarissa Toth ;)

Maybe Navarro wanted to get out of China as soon as possible before the Zheng fans get a hold of her.
Unfortunately for her, Wuhan and Ningbo (if she plays in the latter) are also in China. But I guess she can get away for a few days

Dumb question but is this a joke that she’s playing like Serena? I’ve seen her referred to in this way a few times

edited to add that unfortunately when I was younger I never really watched pro tennis despite playing tennis lol.

Happy for Shuai! Her ranking doesn't represent her quality, so any comparison to her difference with Navarro as for rankings points, isn't so clearly correct. It was obvious she was dealing with mental factors and she couldn't find a win the previous year. Maybe in her country's biggest tournament she found confidence!
