As this was moved indoors and not televised can’t say much about what happened, but important victory this week for Kveta and Nicole in their quest to somehow still get to Shenzhen. They moved a lot closer to the 8th spot by their victory here.

Good week for Tamara and Yanina as well in their first outing as a team. :yeah:

They will need to get by Groenefeld/Schuurs this week to make any damage or the other teams will run away.

Dabrowski/Garcia should be able to get rid of the sisters so the bar might be set there if Azarenka/Barry shows up for Wuhan or Beijing.

Winning 3 Premier titles and reaching the QF in both RG & W and still not top 8 in the Race after 22 tournaments played together already this season? :help:

And TBH I've seen International tournaments tougher than San Jose and Zhengzhou...

Race for doubles are such a disaster when players are just playing with whoever whenever for whatever wherever. You have the top 3 teams playing 11-9-8 tournaments holding solid grounds and then some teams playing ~20 tournaments scraping by simply because not enough teams cared.

Unfortunate Krejcikova injured, any win can pretty much boost her and Siniakova on the ranking list. Also don't know what the hell Stosur and Zhang are doing by not playing so many events (and they are losing here and there when they do play together).

We also got the 0 title Groenefeld/Schuurs holding the last spot...

they have chosen the right tournaments to vulture during the whole season, that's something to admire!
That is really not nice! Why not look at this more positively? You have got the oldest (by a long way) player on tour and her partner getting through yet another season without any injury worries at all. For them to be going this well says more about other players' comparative lack of fitness than it does about them. Also, just look at them together - they utterly ENJOY playing with each other, and there are very few teams about whom you could say that.

And I don't mean that other players are UNfit as such - just that many seem to have niggles of one sort or another, so are at maybe 90-95%. If the level of ability is very similar, that extra 5% in fitness will always win matches.

There really should be some sort of rule for doubles that players are no eligible to collect ranking points after a certain number of tournaments per year, but can still collect the prize money. Melichar/Peschke will have played 26-27 tournaments by the end of this year when only their best 11 count. It's the equivalent of a singles player qualifying for Shenzhen by playing 40 events/year (which isn't even possible as the most WTA events one could play is 35).
