My comments:

New career high for the rising Japanese teen and also 1rst SF on the WTA Tour at Strasbourg WTA Event. Her double handed groundstrokes caused damage on the French clay courts ousting 3rd seed/n°32 also double handed both sides player Peng.

Lucie HRADECKA: Lucie is also a player who is hitting backhand and forehand with double hands and she couldn’t dream a better week as she was celebrating her 24th birthday during Strasbourg tournament. For the 2nd time in her career, she’s Runner up on the WTA Tour. In final, power hitter and local favourite n°79 Rezai was too strong to get the crown.

Alexandra DULGHERU: What an amazing week from the young Romanian. She’s now part of the history as she may be the 1rst woman to win a tournament as a qualifier! N°341 at the beginning of the year, she’s now Top 90! Another record as faster improvement! Just a flashback on her week at Warsaw WTA Event. In the qualies, she, first, ousted 4th seed n°141 Wienerova. Her dream keeps going as she upsetted 5th seed/n°44 Errani, 6th seed/n°36 Hantuchova and 8th seed/n°39 Bondarenko in final, overpowering Alona in the 3rd set 6/0!
The funny thing is that Alexandra wasn’t in the cut for RG09 qualies...! Now she’ll direct enter Wimbledon.

FASTER MOVEMENTS IN THE TOP 10, 20, 50, 100, 150 and 200:

Top 10:

No change

TOP 20:
Kaia KANEPI n°18 (+1) and Dominika CIBULKOVA n°19 (+1):

Kaia: New career high for the Estonian star. Despite a good tournament in Rome where she reached the QF, she was forced to withdraw in Madrid the week after. However her statistics since the beginning of the year, have been pretty good with a 3rd rd at the AO09, a SF in Dubai and a QF at Marbella.
Dominika: We could expect better results from Dominika especially during the clay season. Only 2 QF at Ponte Vedra beach and Charleston. Let’s see if her fast footwork will be efficient during RG.

TOP 50:
Alona BONDARENKO n°29 (+11):

Impressive week for Alona at Warsaw WTA Event. As 8th seed, she made it to the Final with a media win en route over come backer n°126 Sharapova . This was her 3rd Final on the WTA Tour and the 2nd time in Warsaw (2007), but she’ll still have to wait to capture her 1rst title. Sometimes tennis is cruel as her young opponent in Final was making her debut on the WTA Tour and took the crown. However, Alona can be satisfied and is coming back to the Top 30, 10 spots from her best.

TOP 100:
Alexandra DULGHERU n°83 (+118):

TOP 150:
Maria SHARAPOVA n°102 (+24):

After more than 9 months out of competition for shoulder injury, Maria’s fans can be happy to see her back on the Tour. 9 months without competing is not a joke and we all know that things are going really fast on the Tour. That means she’s now out of the Top 100, and will have to climb back to the Elite. For her 1rst tournament, she was logically granted a WC at Warsaw and made it to the QF with a decent victory over n°68 Garbin en route. Her match vs 8th seed/n°39 Alona Bondarenko highlighted the work she still has to accomplish.

TOP 200:
Daria KUSTOVA n°180 (+29):

More than a year ago, Daria broke her ranking record at n°184. But she struggled to confirm and finished the year at n°475! 2009 is much better with a victory/loss record at 38/9, 3 ITF titles at Minsk $25K, Florence $25K and Rome $10K. She arrived at Warsaw full of confidence (after her victory in Florence) to play her 1rst WTA event of the year. She qualified, ousting 3rd seed/n°140 Kerber en route. She kept playing well to get the privilege to face former n°1 Sharapova in the 2nd rd. The experience was short but we hope she enjoy that moment as Daria only grabbed 2 games.
