In terms of pure ability, who would you put in your top 10. This has nothing to do with results, just pure tennis ability.

Mine are:

1. Mauresmo
2. Justine H-H
3. Myskina
4. Maria S
5. Venus
6. Serena
7. Vera
8. Lindsay
9. Kim
10. Capriati

How can Sharapova be no.1 on original talent. Sharapova is a manufactured player who was sent to one of the most successful tennis academys at a really young age, she had professional coaching and courts and everything to train on etc.

Plays like The williams practiced on their local concrete courts, coached by their father who were scouted out as talent. There are lots of 'talent' like these players. Dokic is another who (although crap right now) did not really have any formal training etc until her father decided to make her a tennis star after he had coached her by himself at the local courts. Hingis i think was also trained by her mother and is one of the most talented players around.

A player who is taught by professional tennis coaches from such a young age may be talented and may be good, but you cannot compare them to players who have had it alot tougher, from families who were not rich enough to send them to these acadamies (yes i kno sharapova's family was pretty poor too).

The Question was on talent ... i cant answer it because really there are so many talented players who do bad because they dont train hard enough or dont put enough effort into their tennis etc. So yeh it is a difficult Q to answer.

Very few Wimbledon winners were one-hit-wonders. Nobody had heard of Boris Becker before he won the mens title..............

OMG, will you people stop being partisan and be honest. I hate Hingis, but I know that she was more talented tennis-wise than Serena!

1.) Hingis
2.) Serena
3.) Mauresmo
4.) Henin-Hardenne
5.) Venus
6.) Kim Clijsters (yay!)
7.) Jennifer
8.) Lindsay
8.) Sharapova
9.) Dementieva
Hingis?? Did not realise she was still playing. I forgot Elena D, she is certainly more talented than the likes of Capriati.

ah, i love these threads about talent, where the definition of talent usually becomes "who can hit slices and topspin better".

i think talent is more related to success at an early age. and since "TALENT" can't be learned, let's pretend they are all 14 years old.

1. hingis
2. jennifer
3. serena
4. venus
5. seles
6. sharapova
7. henin-hardenne
8. clijsters
9. shnyder
10. (maybe higher) karatancheva

True. One Slam Wonders tend to win Roland Garros, not Wimbledon. Sharapova is definitely a multiple slam winner.
Yes like Krajeck, Stich and Cash, all multiple slam winners :tape:

Talent is for me to be able to play with variety and not just doing boom-bang.

3 exceptions!! How many one slam wonders won RG? Majoli, Pierce, and Costa come straight from the noggin immediately.

Mary Pierce is not a one slam wonder
She won the Australian Open in 1995!

People always forget this for some reason

Not really, what about Ivansevic? There are probably more in the past as well.
