As a Dominique fan, all her 4 losses at the Grand Slams in 2000 were devastating for me - for different reasons:
At AO, she was seeded but had a crappy draw: 1st round Kim (she beat her in 3 sets) and then Jen. I watched the beginning of the match live. Jen was on fire and took the first set 6-1, but Dominique started great in the 2nd set and led 2-0 so when I had to leave I was still hopeful. When I came back I saw the result: Dominique lost 6-8 in the third set. Really unlucky. And even more because Jen later reached the semifinal and it could have been Dominique instead.
At FO, she was just coming back after the death of her mother, and with another crappy draw (Lindsay in the first round) expectations were low. But then she beat Lindsay in a great match with a good performance. The next day she played qualifier Marta Marrero and won the first set 6-0 when I had to leave (again). Of course I had very little doubt about winning. But when I came back, the score was 6-0 5-7 5-7. I couldn't believe it. And after leading 6-0 4-1 ! Marrero went on to reach the quarterfinal ...
At Wimbledon, I was right there and of course I wanted to see Dominique playing. But again a crappy draw with Jen in the first round. And even worse: they played on court 1 and I didn't have tickets for that court. So I could only follow the scoreboard and saw Dominique losing 2-6 4-6 so I have never seen her playing singles live.
At US Open, she finally had a better draw. In the second round she played Lilia Osterloh. When I came home she had just won the second set 6-4 after losing the first one 6-7 and I hoped that she would win the 3rd set. But then she had to retire ! Really unlucky as it was her last slam. And she could have good chances to reach the semifinal.
