As a Dominique fan, all her 4 losses at the Grand Slams in 2000 were devastating for me - for different reasons:

At AO, she was seeded but had a crappy draw: 1st round Kim (she beat her in 3 sets) and then Jen. I watched the beginning of the match live. Jen was on fire and took the first set 6-1, but Dominique started great in the 2nd set and led 2-0 so when I had to leave I was still hopeful. When I came back I saw the result: Dominique lost 6-8 in the third set. Really unlucky. And even more because Jen later reached the semifinal and it could have been Dominique instead.

At FO, she was just coming back after the death of her mother, and with another crappy draw (Lindsay in the first round) expectations were low. But then she beat Lindsay in a great match with a good performance. The next day she played qualifier Marta Marrero and won the first set 6-0 when I had to leave (again). Of course I had very little doubt about winning. But when I came back, the score was 6-0 5-7 5-7. I couldn't believe it. And after leading 6-0 4-1 ! Marrero went on to reach the quarterfinal ...

At Wimbledon, I was right there and of course I wanted to see Dominique playing. But again a crappy draw with Jen in the first round. And even worse: they played on court 1 and I didn't have tickets for that court. So I could only follow the scoreboard and saw Dominique losing 2-6 4-6 so I have never seen her playing singles live.

At US Open, she finally had a better draw. In the second round she played Lilia Osterloh. When I came home she had just won the second set 6-4 after losing the first one 6-7 and I hoped that she would win the 3rd set. But then she had to retire ! Really unlucky as it was her last slam. And she could have good chances to reach the semifinal.

french open 92 but maybe without wimbledon would have been less nice.

wimbledon 98 was sad too but when she had lost in the quarters it would have been a even bigger disaster because I still had to hear about it every day, so I guess every loss has something positive too

Lindsayfan, I can understand that Lindsay's loss against Dominique was painful, but I am sure (and I think Lindsay said it herself) that she was healthy going into that match. OK, she was rusty after her injury, but Dominique played really smart and made Lindsay run. But I admit that Lindsay was injured again in the 3rd set, where she could hardly move.
Both players were struggling in that match - for different reasons.

Serena's loss to Hingis AO '01

Her losses to Cap RG '01 & TC's '01

Her Loss to Venus (after the beautiful match with Hingis) was the worst though only to be topped by Seles loss to Bedanova USO '01

Steffi's loss to Lindsay in her last Wimbledon final.

Martina Navratilova's loss to Conchita in her last Wimbledon final.

I cried buckets at both of those matchs.

Losses of Kim Clijsters which have hurt me:

US Open 99: 3rd round: Serena Williams (7-5 in the 3rd after leading 3-5 )

Antwerp 00: 2nd round: losing to Lubomira Bacheva in straight sets (I was so dissappointed!)

The losses on clay before Roland Garros 2001 and of course the final of Roland Garros. I wasn't really hurt that Kim lost but I was just a bit sad.

Mary's loss to Arantxa in the FO '94 final.

And of course, Mary losing in the '99 US Open qtrs after holding two match points against Davenport. She could have won that tournament
Justine's loss to Clijsters at Roland Garros.
All of Sandrines loses to Hingis

There are so many but the worst was:

Wimbledon 1976 Evert over Goolagong 8-6 in the 3rd. Evonne was always the runner-up (something like 17 times in GS's) but in '76 she seemed to finally have Evert's number. She beat Chrissie in the Virginia Slims championships finale in LA (played in April) and was seeded #1 for Wimbledon. They played a thrilling match that Evonne served for in the 3rd. 2 months later they met in the USO final and Evonne lost again 3 and 0. UGH!

others:
Davenport d. Graf W/99
Hingis d. Seles CC/00
Schnyder d. Graf USO/98
ASV d. Seles FO/98
Graf d Seles USO/95
Graf d. Novotna W/93
Graf d. Sabatini W/91
Graf d. Navratilova USO/89
Navratilova d. Mandlikova W/86
Evert d. Mandlikova USO/82
Austin d. Navratilova USO/81
Evert d. Goolagong USO/75
King d. Goolagong W/75
King d. Goolagong USO/74
Court d. Goolagong USO/73

So i guess all the GS finals Evonne Goolagong lost can be on here!

I might have the year's wrong, but I was very saddened after Mary Joe beat Serena at the FO 99 (the only time Serena ever lost a set 6-0!) and was set to play Aranxta next round but had to withdraw due to an injury from doubles. Then of course Mary Joe's loss to Venus after winning the first set at the US Open later in the year. She got injured again because she slipped on a wet court when the umpire didn't call a rain delay soon enough. That was extremely painful to watch!!! I still miss MJ!!!!

I also thought that Iva's loss to Hingis at this year's USOpen was very sad as well!!! She was so close!!

There are soooo many:

Davenport def. Hingis - Australian Open
The first tennis match I watched full, the match that I felt in love with Martina, the match she was crushed

Davenport def. Hingis - Indian Wells
Dominated it all, but succumbed in at the end!

Pierce def. Hingis - Roland Garros semi
I really cried after that match! After Martina won the second set, I was so confident! Really disappointing!

Venus def. Hingis - US Open semifinal
I went from Brazil to the US Open only to watch Martina. I yelled so much, I cheered so much, I was so happy to watch her playing, and winning. Then, she hits a crappy overhead, gets a firing down passing shot and doesn't play anything more.

Capriati def. Hingis - Aussie Final
I was so confident Martina would win, shut up everybody's mouth and get over that Grand Slam syndrome. The opposite happened, and Jennifer came like a phoenix (should have stood burn IMO )

Capriati def. Hingis - French Open
Martina reaching a French Open final would be amazing after all those problematic years. I was so excited.. then, she disappointed me again. She didn't play anything. It was her worst match of the year (besides 1stR Wimby)

Serena def. Hingis - US Open 2001
Serena played ALL she could, and trashed Martina on two easy sets. She didn't hit a second serve on the second set. That's pretty amazing.

Venus' 1999? U.S. Open semi final loss to Martina Hingis!

Had Venus won, it would have been the Williams sisters first Grand slam title game.

Venus really should have defeated Martina, but her effort that day made Serena's job a lot easier by "weakening" Hingis.

Of course, as I look back now, it was a blessing in disguise, because that loss, combined with Serena winning the sisters' first Grand slam title, motivated Venus, and she has been on a roll ever since!
