16 years old Seles vs 14 years old Capriati, French Open SF, 1990... 30 years old combined...

These two had the potential for such a great rivalry, as it is they played some great matches, but it could've been so much better had both of them not lost signifcant portions of their careers to outside issues.

As for setting a record for "youngest semifinal" combined age-I can't think of a younger semi.

Saying that I confess that Capriati seemed to be ahem "mature" for a 14 year old.

Another young semi was Andrea Jaeger vs Hana Mandlikova at the 1980 US Open. At the time they looked set to possibly push old ladies Evert and Navratilova out the door to challenge Tracy Austin. Who would have guessed!
