Nikolay Davydenko of Russia overcame an injury to his left foot Monday, defeating Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3 in the opening round of the ABN Amro. Davydenko needed a trainer for his ailing foot in the second set. He played through the discomfort and set up a second-round match with Britain's big-serving Greg Rusedski, who defeated the Czech Republic's Robin Vik 6-3, 7-5.
