I’ll be watching, too, here in the States. I like your girl Naomi, but I’m rooting for Gauff, even though she may not stand a chance if Naomi really comes to play. Lol.

I really love Coco Gauff. I love her passion on court and her mental fortitude. It is also amazing to see how level headed she is at the tender age of 15. When I was her age, I was probably still eating crayons and making a fool of myself. Coco otoh is sitting on top of the world, competing against the best and defeating them, and despite all the fame and glory, she's still down to earth.

If she was on the other side of the draw, I would have love to see her continue her dream run to the final. However, the buck stops here. No way do I want to see Naomi, the title defender and #1 player, get embarrass by a 15 yr old kid with nothing to lose. Cori has all the time in the world to collect major scalps, but not today. Osaka to win in 2 sets!

I hope they dont do at the match. Naomi got crowd support in first two. Not expecting it in this match but atleast dont do this to her during or after this match i hope

I will be at the match and will cheer for both! It’s rare that I attend a match where I really love both the players. I do expect Naomi to win and I think that would be the best outcome.

CoCo could only win if Naomi’s form is WAY off. The hype of CoCo beating the #1 player in the world just isn’t needed right now for so many reasons. Plus Naomi needs to go as deep as possible for the points.

Hoping for a fun match and everyone feeling positive at the end.

All I know is if Coco wins their will be numerous breakdowns on this site. She seems to trigger people like no other. A 15 year old girl bothers some grown men and women to the point they've become obsessed with her failure. The faux concern about her age from most of these people is hilarious. Even if she was 17 or 18 they would still be saying, "She's all hype".

In regards to this match: I think it will depend on two factors. Osaka is supposed to win considering she has the experience, her game is more explosive, and she's won two slams. For the tour's sake she needs this win. However, the fact remains that Osaka is no longer the underdog anymore. I suspect this crowd will be heavily pro-Coco and that creates a lot of tension and pressure. We'll have to see if Osaka can show up against Coco and the crowd because I feel like Osaka is a bit fragile in that regard.

Hopefully, it's a great match. Osaka should win this but I'm rooting for both.

John McEnroe & Chris Evert are spot on. It definitly would be "Too Much Too Soon" for Gauff if she wins this. And the other 3 Clowns sitting there have no clue whatsoever about Tennis, how much expectations it can create, etc.

Mac actually gave a good example when he lost to Connors being 18. He could go back, had some self reflection and came back stronger & won a few Majors.

If Naomi is focussed on herself it will be an easy match for her.

US Open 2019: Serena Williams excited to watch Naomi Osaka take on Coco Gauff, terms them 'future of women's tennis'
Firstpost • Aug 31, 2019 12:30:32 IST

By Agence France-Presse

New York: Serena Williams is usually playing in the matches that thrill her most, but she's going to join a host of fans in watching Saturday's US Open third round showdown between teen sensation Coco Gauff and top-ranked defending champion Naomi Osaka.

The blockbuster night matchup at Arthur Ashe Stadium pits 15-year-old American Gauff, who made a fourth-round Wimbledon run in her Grand Slam debut, against 21-year-old Japanese star Osaka, the reigning US and Australian Open champion.

"I definitely think it's the future of women's tennis," Williams said. "And I'm really excited to just be a fangirl and kind of watch."

Williams, the 37-year-old American chasing a 24th Grand Slam title to match Margaret Court's all-time record, sees them as the hottest young talents in the game.

"It will be a really interesting match. I think it's super exciting tennis," she said. "Coco is much younger than Naomi, if you could say that, because Naomi is incredibly young."

Even World No 1 and defending men's champion Novak Djokovic can't wait to see what Gauff and Osaka do.

"Coco is definitely a new superstar of tennis. It's great to see her fighting spirit, her intensity," Djokovic said. "She's only 15. She brings so much maturity in her game for such a young age. It's very impressive.

"Definitely a fan of her and fan of Naomi, as well, what she has done in the last couple of years. It's going to be really interesting because they're both very likeable players and girls. They have a lot of fans. It's going to be definitely a great match."
Mate, I totally understand the Hype around this Match.

An Osaka vs Gauff Rivalry in the Future has the potential to eclipse the Federer/Nadal Rivalry and that's an Understatement

Also, the Fan Groups of both Players would probably treat each other far more respectfully compared to the Fed/Nadal folks because both Groups are caring so much for each other.

Tennis needs Rivalries. Fed/Nad/Djoker will be gone in 2-3 years and the Sport needs something to lean back on.

2 matches is a run? That’s not even a run in a 250 event...

This could go either way... Naomi isn’t 100% and the crowd won’t be on her side...
That's plenty for a 15-year old. No player should peak at that age. No one should want to be a Capriati or Austin.

Factors that could cause Naomi to lose:
1) Her knee. Naomi having to retire like Serena did at Toronto is the worst possible outcome.
2) Bad tactics. If Jermaine isn't a good tactician, Naomi might go in with a bad match plan or none at all. Like Halep?
3) Backhand Slices: If Coco play slices to Naomi's backhand relentlessly, like Putintseva; that's Naomi's kryptonite.
4) Nerves: Naomi's fear of being disgraced could make her very nervous, leading to a galore of unforced errors.

Factors that could favour Naomi:
1) Gauff took a day off to play doubles after learning that she was to play the world number 1. A lack of focus.

Coco Gauff on Naomi Osaka after her Match vs Babos:

"I practiced with her, I think I was 13, at Miami Open," Gauff told reporters after her dramatic three-set win over Timea Babos in the second round. "That was super cool.

"I was able to keep the ball on the court. I was super nervous. She's prepping for a tournament so I didn't want to mess up her practice.

"But she's a super sweet person. I mean, my dad and her dad have known each other for a long time. They always talk all the time.

"She's a great person. She's nice. Her mom is one of the nicest people ever. She's so amazing. Her whole family is just great."

This must be a pretty surreal feeling not just for Naomi & Coco BUT for their Parents as well. Bring it on Girls :)

I don't see Naomi losing to the Atlanta Hype Machine, but stranger things happen every day in the WTA.

I would expect Naomi to win this.
However, historically she's had more of a problem with strong defenders.
Some of Coco's gets in the Babos match were great and she has good instincts about where play is headed and how to take advantage.
Check out the first point in the highlights at the youtube link below.

Also Babos, being a doubles specialist, was more than willing to come to the net to end points.
Naomi is less comfortable at the net and that will probably give Coco more time in many situations.
Still, Naomi obviously executes her game at a higher level than Babos executes hers so you'd expect her to dominate Coco.
Nonetheless, I feel that Coco will get some chances unless Naomi peaks from beginning to end.

The only way that Naomi can lose this match is if she beats herself. It's 100% on Osaka's racket.
