Just typed a full paragraph out, but came up with invalid thread.

Not repeating it, but basically along the lines of a bit of a meh field, full of European journeywomen. Zavatska/Penko two of the more interesting, but have drawn each other. Kalinskaya in a decent section and could maybe make another WTA semi here. Hopefully Kuzmova can get something going again after a poor few months, and it'll be interesting to see if Paolini can back up her Guangzhou success, but I've personally not got a lot of interest outside of that.

Nice level for Ostapenko to step down to, before she starts using her unlimited GS WCs with abandon in higher events.
I love Gasparyan's game, and last year this tournament was great for her after all her injury woes, this year after that injury at Wimbledon which gifted Elina her first GS SF, she again deserves this.

The most wide open field I’ve seen all season. I hope Ostapenko steps up and takes advantage, but literally anyone could win this

Is Bondarenko still playing? Haven't seen her name in a WTA-draw for ages.

Hopefully the Belgians can make it 4 out of 4 in R1.

As for the winner, I voted 'other'. But don't ask me who!

I would say Kalinskaya or Niculescu for the surprise!?

All the internationals give wcs to locals, but these 3 girls are guaranteed in all events (WTA or ITF) the last 5 years!

Last year for Tashkent  I can remember it’s inaugural event 20 years ago, won by Anna Smashnova of Israel.

Hope its final edition is as successful as possible; its always had weak draws so nothing new this year.

They should ask Iroda Tulyaganova to present the winners trophy.

It would be great for Ostapenko and the tournament if she won this.

I’m expecting a Pavlyuchenkova Baku type performance though with double faults galore but able to scrape through a few rounds with her superior ground game against this competition.

Bondarenko is back from her 2nd pregnancy, that's why she got "seeded" 9th in singles and 5th in doubles with Krunic to avoid drawing seeds in R1s under the new WTA Serena-policy ;)
