This was unnecessary.

Halep is so much more talented than Anisimova and also consistent. Maybe Anisimova will be a good player in the future - who knows? She can also be next Bouchard or Vaidisova - Nicole also made a QF in FO at 17 yo and where she is now? She was seen as next big superstar and she faded away into irrelevancy. Anisimova is just playing as young fearless teenager who has nothing to lose, but wait a few years if her head and game will keep up. ;)

To me Anisimova has just a few good runs in a very weak year, and soon she wont be getting into later stages of slams.
Halep is not necessarily "much more talented" than Anisimova. They have different strengths and weaknesses.

Halep is a much better mover, with more variety and experience.

Anisimova has much better ball striking skills.

Anisimova is already a good player.

Just because Vladisova flamed out, it has no bearing whether the same will happen to Amanda.

Yes, she is playing fearlessly with nothing to lose. This makes her extremely dangerous to somebody like Halep, who does not always have the match in her hands.

You have no way of knowing whether she will soon not make the latter stages of slams. She is progressing nicely. Fourth round at AO. Now, QF at FO.

So far, except for the long period she missed because of injury, her trajectory has been steadily upward.

There is nothing to indicate she is a flash in the pan.

Just think, when Halep was 17, she was just a big boobed girl that no one saw any potential of being a top player, barely ranked in the Top 300.... so Amanda already has a big head start for the future.
You clearly know nothing about tennis, that's quite sad.

Halep will probably win but I'm hoping for an upset.

Anisimova is just overrated because of her recent slam results and looks. I doubt we will her about her next year.

With this terrible weather today, a lot will depend on how each player copes with rain delays and wet clay conditions. Often these matches change momentum a lot if players keep going off and on or if the match happens over two days. I think this makes it more likely it will go to three sets - unless Halep is on a mission to finish the match before the next downpour!

The total washout will help Anisimova. The conditions may still l be sloe tomorrow, but not ad bad as if they had played today with stops and starts.

Common sense says Halep will make her move and break her serve a lot and win.
But any young player this deep in a major doesnt understand how rare these moments are, and sometimes like Ostapenko they play very well in high pressure moments because they dont understand how big a deal it is
So there is a puncher's chance here, but it shouldnt happen if halep stays steady

Wouldn't say Halep has more variety....

Not true at all. Everyone mentions her ground strokes and maturity...not her looks.

Good lord Amanda please just get rid of this woman and her cakewalk draw.

Halep has the easiest draw by far here at RG this year, so she hasn't got any excuses should she lose this time

Amanda already did herself proud coming this far, such a talented youngster, and QF at RG, that is amazing but semi finals would be a ''cherry on top'' thing for her :)

I have a hunch that this could reasonably go in two diametrically opposite ways and I am not sure which.
Anisimova could surprisingly overwhelm Halep or she could be overawed by the occasion and easily dismissed by the defending champ.
The latter is the more likely scenario but stranger things have happened than Halep losing when everyone expects her to win.
