So Mattek-Sands was a placeholder instead? Safarova plays w/Cibulkova here.

Janicijevic got a wildcard for here as well? Who does this girl know? Such a huge payday slam for her.

I dunno, of the top 4 seeds I think Dabrowski/Xu have the best draw to the SF. But they can also lose to just about anyone and I never quite feel confident picking them for the outright title.

If Babos and Mladonna can get through the winner of Barty/Azarenka and Team Shuaisur, I can see them going all the way.

Also if both bomb out of singles early, I can see Mertens/Sabalenka storming through actually.

But i'll be rooting for Barbie and Su Wei! :)

wow

Mertens/Sabalenka
Stosur/Zhang
Azarenka/Barty
Baos/Mladenovic
Hsieh/Strycova

all in bottom half

Srebotnik/Atawo not even seeded  when was the last time Kata was not seeded at a Slam?!

Hesse got a WC , after all :eek:h:

Kerjcikova/Siniakova got lucky with the draw - they should win it all/reach the final against one of the bottom half faves

This draw is so lopsided.

In the top you have just Krejcikova/Siniakova for the decent team. 2,000 points is not difficult for them to defend when looking at who they drawn. However, they did lose to Dabrowski/Xu this year in Madrid, so who knows...

Dabrowski/Xu, Chan^2 and/or Groenefeld/Schuurs will be able to bag some precious points with all those journey teams. Melichar/Peschke might finally get a win here, but Pavlyuchenkova/Sevastova should be able to take them out next round.

Bottom half we likely have Mertens/Sabalenka v. Hsieh/Strycova and Azarenka/Barty v. Babos/Mladenovic. Stosur/Zhang is a non factor if Stosur continues to play baseball in tennis. Even Kudermetova/Voskoboeva can send them home.

Hozumi/Ninomiya will likely be taken out by Atawo/Srebotnik, don't see them defending 1,300 points here.

Dasha retired from singles match against Krunic. Maria seemed fine in her opening round 6-0 6-1 win so she probably just didn't have another partner lined up.

Sharma is a good doubles player so nice addition to the draw.

LOL @ Dabrowski/Xu being the favourite team to reach the final in the top half.

Good on Dabrowski for sticking with such a weak player.

Schuurs is probably crying somewhere right now.

Schuurs might be especially annoyed if Mertens snatches that #1 without her after deciding to cut down her doubles schedule this year. :hysteric:

I'm rooting for Kveta (will be one of the oldest in a slam final) and Flipper in the top half! But yeah I think Dabrowski and Xu are slightly more likely.

In the bottom half I have to think Sabalenka/Mertens are the favourites, but obviously the winner of the two top 5 seeds clashing will be good preparation to face a stronger team like that.

SaiSaiYingYing gunning for that first slam!
But if Rose Zhang wins the next three matches, she'll be world nº 1...

Most exciting part of RG '19!

When I saw how tight Xu got trying to finish off Ferro/Parry (who they were in complete control of at 6-1 4-1 yesterday) I knew they were not getting through this section against any of the remaining teams. Some of the shots she missed were just terrible and it looks as though they capitulated again from 5-3 up against Duan and Zheng. Overall I think it’s been a much better season on clay than they’ve ever had so still some positives to take away but I still believe Gaby needs to switch it up if she’s going to be a real contender at majors.
