Not sure why everyone thinks Naomi has a hard R1... I'm a huge Sakkari fan but people seem to have forgotten that she hasn't won a SINGLE match on grass courts in 2 years. She didn't even get any practice in Nottingham since all her matches were played on indoor hard. Great player, but not her surface.

Osaka has to be the clear favourite for that quarter, and I think Konta is the favourite for hers in her current form. 3rd one is a little tricky because even though it looks like a typical cakewalk for Pliskova, doubles partners Barbie and Su Wei have good grass games and (SW's other former partner) Sabalenka is still unpredictable.

4th quarter is a little busier with grass specialists Barty/Vekic/Venus. I'll be rooting for Vee of course :)armed:) but the way Barty has been playing this year, and with Donna already going deep in Nottingham, this may be one of those rare tournaments where the #1 and #2 seeds actually make the final.

That's true. Where is Naomi anyway? No Twitter or IG Posts practicing on Grass. Very suspicious. I hope she isn't injured.

She's been pretty quiet on social media since losing at RG.
She has another IG profile where she posted a video of her, Abdul and Nana and tagged it as Birmingham.

I have tickets for Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday... so I'm hoping to catch Naomi at some point.

Vekic - Barty is such a brutal 1st round. This could be the final!
I saw that. It should be good. Vekic manages to give us good battles lately and you never really know if she will win or choke.

Great to see my favoured Fitness Trainer back with her :) I like Abdul a lot. Such a nice, handy guy. Naomi letting him go to California for his Sons Graduation is such pure class on her Part.

Lucky you that you can see her. I tried at Stuttgart and then she had to pull out of her Semi. I was sooo incredibly sad

I hope you get more lucky than I was. Please post some Pics if you get to see her in her Forum :)

Vekic had the slice practice with Maria, maybe she can give Barty a test. With regard to Sakkari vs Osaka, I know she lost to her last time on HC, but I think it's a better deal than Vekic. Will be interested to see how Sabalenka handles The Magician on grass. GrassKonta is probably pumped up for this. Ready for it to stay at home after her recent form.

Pretty much all the seeds got a difficult draw except Wang Qiang who drew a qualifier. I won't be surprised we are left with just Wang as the only seed if she got a soft Q.

For the top draw, both Osaka and Sakkari are not good on grass, but Sakkari's recent form is not bad. Is Goerges healed? Yastremskya can out hit her. Gasparyan is a proven grass court player. Kontaveit has got to be the most steady player Konta don't want to face.

In the bottom, Sabalenka isn't doing so well since the Shenzhen win and she may just become an error machine with the way Hsieh plays. Pliskova might coast through since Buzarnescu isn't as dangerous as she was last year. Then the Barty v. Vekic match could well be the final.

Brady as a poll option? :spit:

Anyone can win it, but I'll go with Pliskova or Barty. Osaka has a good draw as well if she gets past Sakkari, needs to get some matches for grass. Also surprised Kvitová as two-time defending champion isn't in the draw, I'm guessing she's still injured? :tears: Hopefully she's fine for Wimbledon, and it could be better considering how she flopped there the last two years when the spotlight was on her because of Birmingham.

Overall the draw feels so underwhelming for a Premier, but that's par for the course these days. When is the real tournament next week, Mallorca's draw coming out??
Petra is still injured, she said it's still early to come back.

What makes the Mallorca draw better? Angie will be in holiday mode. Maria's comeback or a grass title for Bencic?

barty has managed to slide through many draws this year under the radar.

now as a grand slam champion, i want to see whether the pressure now affects her performance, or she continues to win.

she is number 2 in the world, which means theoretically she should make the final of all tournaments she is entering. ( it's the w.t.a. so we know that will not happen)

as far as this event is concerned, i picked pliskova to win, if she is fit & motivated.

Would say Vekic but she might be tired after the Nottingham mess, so a safe pick would be Pliskova

Vekic is already in the final at Nottingham so I think she will withdraw most likely or may be because Birmingham and Nottigham are very close, she will enter the tournament.

A few videos I took from my day at Birmingham. It was fun.
PS I never know how to post Twitter videos so this may not work first time...

* edit - yeh, they didn't work...even when I use the Twitter button?

Other highlights of the day were:
- My seat was where the coaches sit. The crowd was so quiet - every time the coaches shouted support (aka blatantly coached from the stands) everyone would look around like WTF.
- Sabalenka's hot coach sat next to me for a game or so when he gave up his own seat for an elderly couple.
- Margarita Gasparyan's beautiful backhand.

All my faves are playing back to back. YASTREMSKA first, then Alona, then Sharapova...then I'm done for the day but hopefully not the week ?

Also, Stan, Paire, FAA, Fed, Dmitrov and Stefanos. ATP TV is looking like a good investment for at least until Wimbledon.
