Just impressive. Riske was just dialled in today. Not everything went in her way but she was steely come the serious moments of the match and saved a *3-5 15-40, broke Petra back in a long tussle and then broke again at 6-5 to win it.

Petra hit a lot more winners but Riske managed her pts a lot better overall. Certainly I felt Petra ought to have claimed set 2 (a bit unfortunate a let called on a would be ace) but Riske started to peg her back with sharp shots and Petra wilted.

Commentators couldn't stop talking about Riske getting some dried cranberries to rejuvenate her after a changeover before 3-5...

Please beat Sabalenka for the title :cheer:

Wuhan SF Alison Riske def. Petra Kvitova 7-5 7-5

Saving couple sps in the 2nd set :cheer:
Petra missing all her chances and can't find her game with Riske hitting everything to the middle.

Re: Wuhan SF: Riske SHOCKS [5]Petra Kvitova 7-5 7-5

:woohoo: Ali was a rock today, handled everything Kvitty threw at her. :worship: And let's face it, a familiar story from Petra, occasionally brilliant, mostly a mess.

Chuffed for Ali but what a sad choke by Petra, especially those 4 set points in the second. Sobolenko & Riske both are Chinese tournament specialists, so fitting both made the final, just like in Shenzhen in week 1.

In the past it was Riske to falter at the key moments. It's super refreshing to see her become a mental giant even if it doesn't last too long. But really she's been super competitive and has pushed herself that extra gear this season. Nice to see her brilliant work ethic and attitude pay off, plus her game can be very fun to watch when it's on fire.

Did not expect this result, although at this point I think we should start expecting results such as this one more and more from Riske. Just a fantastic week for her and maybe tomorrow she'll pick up her first Tier 1 title, she'd definitely deserve it just as much as Sabalenka would.

Riske :worship: What a performance. Petra did peak at times, but she was too inconsistent today. Way too many UEs. Riske rode the storm and came up with some amazing shots at clutch moments. Her mental game has been so impressive this year. Funny how she has transformed from a choker to producing an amazing mental performance like this many times this year.

Now please avenge the Shenzhen final and win the whole thing! :cheer:

Too bad, Kvitova-Sabalenka would have been such a great final on these courts. I don't think Kvitova is the same player anymore in these type of tight matches after that AO final loss.

even granted ali is one tricky opponent and showed good form this week, her featured in a P5 final seems so random.
as for petra: maybe she's just not that good...

Ali you demon!!

went toe-to-toe and took the best punches that Petra had, got knocked down plenty of times but just got right back up. And what a return game at 4-5 to break and tie that set back up.

Was Alison eating dried prunes in that changeover at 3-4? I know she likes to snack during the matches but that's the first time i've seen that LOL

Girl go eat a big dinner and keep up that energy for tomorow :)

Had a feeling this result was coming, Alison has been in the zone this week, playing just as well as she did at Wimbledon.

Since Wimbledon her results have been patchy but she seems to have found more confidence, when up against the bigger names on tour she seems to be up for the fight.

I wouldn't be surprised if she beats Sabalenka tomorrow too.

The Great Wall of Riske continues her run of upsets [Wang Qiang, Svitolina and now Kvitova] in Wuhan :worship:

Petra  was hoping for Peaktra to show up long enough to take that second set but it was not to be

Should be interesting to see how Riske and Sabalenka try and dismantle each other's game tomorrow.
