MUNICH, Germany (AP) -- The WTA set up a panel to investigate the wrist injury that kept Venus Williams from playing in the year-ending Sanex Championships.

The three-member panel of two doctors and a lawyer will choose the doctor that will examine Williams, the WTA said Tuesday. No date has been set for the examination.

The organization said last week that Williams faced a loss of $140,000 in bonus money if it was proved the injury was not legitimate.

``If a player withdraws from the championships after she has qualified, we set up an independent committee to look into whether she was unable to play,'' WTA tour chief executive Bart McGwire said.
