The ruling body for women´s tennis is investigating the injury which Venus Williams says prevents her from playing in Munich this week.
WTA chief executive officer Bart McGuire said: "If a player withdraws from a championship after she has qualified we set up an independent committee to look into it."
Williams dropped out on Friday, saying she had a sore wrist. She had repeatedly assured the WTA that she would compete in the event.

Very good idea. But I am afraid it is just words, and they'll just pee in their pants when it'll come to doing some real damage.

Actually, I welcome this investigation. The greedy WTA do not give a rat's behind about the welfare of the players. I wonder how they will look Venus in the eye when her injury is verified. The same goes for the jealous Lindsay.

On the contrary LucasARG. Venus has done a lot to raise the popularity of the sport, but she's also doing a lot to ruin it.

They helped to raise popularity of sport in the US. But I don't think they care about it at all. What I want to see from them as a proof that they really care is going on exhibition tour to African countries
- South Africa and Zimbabwe, as countries with tennis traditions, at least.
Why is that Kournikova playing Coetzer in RSA exhibition? I guess if it would be triangle series - Coezter-Kournikova-Williams it would make a helluva help to help the sport in South Africa. But will they do that? I don' think so.

I also welcome this investigation. Whatever happened to "innocent until proven guilty"? But, many people want to continue to villianize the Williams sisters out of jealousy.

Let's see what happens. I doubt there will be many apologies when Venus is vindicated. People will just go on to the next unsubstantiated innuendo.

ys Who do you think you are to suggest what the Williams Sisters should do?????? They re doing a lot of things for tennis, like opening tennis clinic, etc If they don't come to Africa is worthless???

Why there's so much Williams haters here?????

So now they are responsible for supporting the sport in South Africa?? Please give me a break!

btw--I can't wait to see what the WTA say when they end up with egg on their faces. Will they admit they were wrong? Doubtful.

Please Kourni is going to South Africa because of the appearance fee, prove to me she's not getting paid and then we'll talk. Can you say, "SHOW ME THE MONEY!"

Kournikova would earn more money by modeling for one hour than for all those series, still she goes to there, to the country with the highest crime rate in the world ( just like Steffi used to do, proving that her support of Africa ( wildlife and heritage ) is not just money or words ). Kournikova is not of African origin and never claimed to have anything to do with Africa. Still she goes to there and plays. Well, I guess Williamses are the ones who have the least to do with Africa in reality..

I agree, victory1. That's greed and selfishness, thinking only about their stupid contracts - all those Reeboks and Pumas, and not thinking about sport at all. Not playing tournaments, withdrawing all the time. Of course, it is greed and lazinhess. What else..

If Anna could make it as a model she'd be a model, I mean it's obvious she isn't a tennis player. She's a Lolita wanna be in the minds of some dirty old men and hormonally driven youth, that does not a model or an ambassador make

I hate the attitude to Anna displayed by some posters here. She's a damn good tennis player - before injury she was consistently top 10, she's beaten almost all the top players and her game is great to watch. Men find her attractive, she makes money from that - that doesn't make her any less of a player. None of us know her motivation for playing in South Africa - maybe it's financial but it is also perfectly true that she could have got a more lucrative exhibition/modelling job somewhere more convinient. Who knows?

As for Venus, she can do what she likes. She doesn't have to support the tour if she doesn't want to. It would be nice if she did, but it's up to her.

This injury sounds slightly suspicious, and it's perfectly proper for the WTA to investigate it. In my opinion, they should be doing so with all late withdrawals. None of us know whether or not the injury is genuine. I guess we'll find out when the doctors report back.

ys , what has Venus and Serena ever done to you??? No one expects you to like them , but enough already... I really need to understand what about them has "some" individuals typically vomiting in fear .... "Many" complain that they are just "part-time" professional tennis players , but I bet they secretly wish they would stay that way. :
P.S. Why in the world would greedy Venus pretend to be hurt instead of showing up to collect the $140,000 in bonus money??

Thank YS for agreeing about Anna. You know the non-player that gets by on looks not skills. Great accomplishment! Anyway, if V&S were greedy they would play more tournaments and earned more money, I think you people are grasping, because you're not making sense. I mean the pay out is a cool million dollars, Venus had more than 50% chance of winning that tournament, so your greed theory? Come up with something else, Anna chances of winning the Chase, less than 1%!

victory, everyone's chance of winning the Chase is less than 1%. Simply because there is no Chase any more.
