Could any of you check in the World of Tennis Annual for 2000, what the lower prize money limit of the Tier II category for WTA events in 1999 (and probably also in 2000) was?

I think it is either 400,000 or 500,000 USD.

It is on page 183, but the scan I have is too blurred to read that number.

The amount was $500,000 (from p 183) for a Tier II.

But as always this IS the WTA, organization of exceptions galore. Sydney results are listed on page 198, under Tier III and IV events, but was actually a Tier II! Prize money in 1999 at Sydney was $420,000 US.

Perhaps the Ausssie dollar was weak in these years? This wasn't the only year Sydney was an exception to the rankings table.

Hi Rollo,

Thanks for checking this. It seems Hannover (with $450,000 US) was also an exception in 1999.
For several years Sydney was put into a higher category than its price money would have meant.

You are always welcome Elegos.

Hmm-the WOT (page 191) has $520,000. $520,000 seems to have been the standard in 1999 despite the $500,0000 minimum.

And yet the 2000 Sanex player guide does have $450,000 US for Hannover on page 378.
