Didn't she just beat Kenin? Just when you think she can turn a new page, nope, back to square one. Could also be what someone else said, jet lag combined with some sort of illness, because that was pretty damn bad even for her recent standards.

Oh well. Penko only plays well vs grand slam champions.

Jet lag surely some impact but Cornet is Cornet, all credit to her.

Why would any expect anything of someone traveling from Seattle to St Petersburg? That's an 11 hours time difference to overcome in about three days.

Sevastova saw that it was crazy and withdrew.
One needs a brain to realise that ;)

It's not a reason..Tennis players are used to travel and to change a time zone.. Svitolina and Linette won easily R1 match in Hua Hin. There is no excuse. It looks like one has a butthurt after AO🤭

Not exactly comparable. Cornet is a solid top 30 player at her best. OTOH Svitolina played Schoofs who hit 11 DFs in her match, and is generally an ITF player.

You have a better argument for Linette who beat Bondarenko, but then again Ostapenko played Serena and Kenin, players notches above those Linette faced at Fed Cup (Zidansek who?), so there is an effort differential. I'm not defending Ostapenko's performance but it's clear there could be some mitigating circumstances at work. She didn't feel like being out in court today.

The Linz / Luxembourg Ostapenko disappeared in St Petersburg. Would have been better off resting and recovering in prep for Dubai.

Exactly. She did have an MTO during the match, got her BP checked, the commentator thought she was going to retire any time soon her service was broken, unfortunately she didn't. Of course jetlag (11 hours difference - unlike 4 for those who went to Thailand), mild change in temperature may also play a role. Should of withdrawn.

Too bad for Aljona, she probably should’ve just rested this week. Nice playing from Alize though, hope she can win some more matches here

To whom are you referring here? Thailand is nine hours' time difference from the US West Coast.

Ukraine (Elina) and Poland (Magda) played in Estonia - 5 hours difference. Speaking under correction, but I don't think any of the players who played in the US went to Thailand so it doesn't matter what the time difference is.
