Not sure if Raina will play here, get a WC in Dubai or play the W25 event in Pune (her hometown).

Kalinskaya Juvan, interesting pair..but they will play? They are at the bottom of the list...
They will get in using their singles rankings

Thank you...it's the same rule in slam competition? A combined of best ranking single and double? For example 69 in double for kalinskaya and 91 in single for juvan...it's correct?
Yes, correct. The only difference is that in Slams the entire draw is made of "best singles or doubles rankings" pairs while in WTA the first cut (about 70% of teams) is made of "best doubles ranking" pairs only and when making the draw on site the rest of the draw is made using the "best singles or doubles rankings" pairs.

Baseline had an article exactly one year ago that Vania King was retiring. Now I see her in doubles entries. What's up? I hope she continues playing. I met her when she was just deciding to go pro instead of take a scholarship to Stanford. Very nice person.

She's doing a "farewell tour". Will play Guadalajara and Monterrey and then Miami and Charleston with Shvedova and thats's it.

Why? I know that people are probably sick of me banging on about it, but why can't doubles entries be based SOLELY on players' doubles rankings? Why should singles players who don't regularly play doubles be allowed to swoop in over the top of doubles specialists who need the money far more than the singles players, especially as the latter receive anywhere between six and twelve times as much money as the doubles players for exactly the same level of performance?

Because WTA wants their top (singles) players to play doubles as well without taking the WCs away from the local players.

Then they need to create a system that doesn't disadvantage the doubles specialists so blatantly, perhaps by limiting the number of tournaments at which the top players can use their singles ranking to play doubles. If they're even the slightest bit serious about playing doubles they should get a genuine ranking like everyone else.

That is something I would fight for as well. I would probably decrease the singles prize money to get the doubles one more attractive so singles players would consider building a doubles ranking. WC could be used to let some singles players in. Those players are basically playing for the extra paycheck and extra « fun » and that is not extra cool to me. Just to see that a doubles grand slam winner get about USD200,000 and the singles one about USD2,000,000 it makes me sick.

WTA is actually the least of the three in terms of favoring singles players over doubles players on acceptance draw.

Both ITF in Slams and ATP uses best of singles and doubles combined ranking for all acceptances, WTA is the only one that doesn't (and has Top 20 WCs instead).

Sure WTA can modify the prize money, but in the current pandemic era, I think it's going to be a hard sell to make doubles more of a focus. Both the tournament and singles player would opt against it. What WTA probably can do is to start counting best of 16 tournaments rather than 11 for doubles, which should favor those doubles specialists.

You’re right not the best time to do it but it is something to look at for the future. The best example (in my opinion) of fair prize-money distribution can be seen with the BWF (Badminton World Federation). Their prize-money formula is very good and fair to all-players.
