Looks like the WTA have given out their bonuses this week - Venus gets $140,000, Serena gets $50,000 and Jennifer gets just $30,000!!! Martina Hingis got a whopping $300,000 and Lindsay got $270,000!!!

I haven't worked out the others, but Jen's is pathetic compared to most others!?!

What are these bonuses based on?

Is nobody else baffled by this?

Anke Huber got a bigger bonus than Jennifer Capriati?

Serena Williams got more than Jennifer Capriati?

Jennifer played her 17 events, I don't understand!?!

Why should Hingis get so much more than everyone else?

It makes NO SENSE!?!
I thought bonusmoney were based on the worldranking This is dumb

Probably on popularity...
I think Bonus money is based on a players 'Q' rating at the start of the year and is worked out according to the number of events they are able to commit to each year.

I would say players like Hingis, Davenport and V Williams at the start of the year were on a bonus of $400,000 and ended up getting less due to not meeting total committments due to injury or otherwise.

I guess for some reason Jen was to highly rated at teh start of the year and maybe actually got what she was entitled to according to her 'Q'. I am sure she will have a much higher rating next year - possibly $400.000

And before someone asks - no Anna is not on the top level cause believe it or not tennis is actually taken into account or should I say success on the court!

I will add a disclaimer here - this is what I have been told and what i can remember of it - it may not be entirely correct so don' t blast me for inaccuracies OK
Ahh...thanks for the info Penne!
If it's related to the "commitment list" the bonuses are based on rankings after the US Open (2000). Next year's would thus be based on the rankings after this year's USO.

I read somewhere that the "commitment list' upon which those bonuses are calculated have to due with rankings, record and attractiveness to the promoters, which is something akin to a 'Q' or popularity rating.
I take it that the results of "Venusgate" were in Miss Williams' favor?
I read somewhere that nothing came of it..although the very idea of questioning a players injury is a fool's game. How are they supposed to determine with any degree of certainty how much pain Venus (or Lindsay) was in 2 or 3 weeks ago? What are these fools thinking?

Nice one Lisa Raymond

Jen wasn't winning stuff when the list was made up so she was down on the prize list i guess
