Hsieh, the Chans, Chang and Chuang are all not playing at Taipei this year :tape:

edit: probably yes. They claimed that Hsieh is playing at Japan as she doesn't like to play indoors tournament, the Chans are not playing as they could not add any extra points at doubles even if they win, Chang and Chuang are injured.

She is playing 75K Dubai next week and also entered 75K Tokyo the week after Taipei. Most likely to ensure her AO MD place as she is down to #107 now. Probably she thinks that it's easier to win points in this "Asian swing" rather than the European indoor ITF+125K swing in these few weeks :p

Yeah I saw the Tokyo EL first and was really confused but it makes a lot more sense now. Hopefully she can win some matches though.

This totally confirms my suspicion that HSIEH is a spoiled brat. She's Taiwan's biggest star and she is skipping Taiwan's biggest tournament because she doesn't like the surface?? That shows no respect for her fans whatsoever. At least the Chans have an excuse - they are focused on doubles now and this tourney is too small to help their ranking. What's Hsieh's excuse? Look at Yen-Hsun Lu. He always goes back to Taiwan to play the challengers because he respects the fans. Can you imagine Halep skipping Bucharest and playing Bastad instead because she doesn't like the weather or some crappy excuse like that?

I suspect there's more to the story that we haven't heard yet. Her greedy dad probably asked the Taiwan tennis association for some kind of a bonus and didn't get what he wanted so they're skipping it. That's just a theory, but sounds like something they would do.

Hsieh is not the only player disliking the surface and lightning in Taipei Arena. Players like Zhang Shuai have complained about this surface sucking your feet and may well cause severe injury. I guess you just want Hsieh to play here and then lose first round, or even get injured. The ATP challenger tournament has been hosted in Kaohsiung where it's at an outdoor hard court. Had the event in Taipei hosted in the outdoor Kaohsiung court I am 100% sure Hsieh would have opt to play in Kaohsiung. Not even a comparison here when Lu doesn't have vision issue.

Why don't you complain to WTA that Taipei had to move their tournament from the Zhuhai week to this week clashing with Tokyo/Ariake? Originally this tournament was to be held during the week of Zhuhai, where Hsieh surely can attend the event and then lose in first round, but WTA made Taipei move this event for Zhuhai.

Now the WTA Kaohsiung event moved from outdoor court to indoor next year, I won't be surprised to see Hsieh skipping that event as well due to lightning.

 at Chans having an excuse. OEC is actually their sponsor. Surely they can play Singles.

give me a break. I've been watching this tournament for years, It's not like players are falling down and injuring themselves left and right. Name one player who's been injured in Taipei. Some players don't like clay either, does that stop them from playing their home tourney on it? Of course it requires some adjustment, but isn't that the case with all surfaces? You're never going to convince me she isn't disrespecting her home fans by skipping this tournament.
