Taipei City (/ˌtaɪˈpeɪ/; Chinese: 臺北市 or 台北市; pinyin: Táiběi Shì; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Tâi-pak Chhī) is the capital of Taiwan. Situated at the northern tip of Taiwan, Taipei is located on the Tamsui River; it is about 25 km (16 mi) southwest of Keelung, a port city on the Pacific Ocean. It lies in the Taipei Basin, an ancient lakebed bounded by the two relatively narrow valleys of the Keelung and Xindian rivers, which join to form the Tamsui River along the city's western border.[1] The city proper is home to an estimated 2,618,772 people.[2] Taipei, New Taipei, and Keelung together form the Taipei–Keelung metropolitan area with a population of 6,900,273.[3] They are administered under three municipal governing bodies. "Taipei" sometimes refers to the whole metropolitan area, while "Taipei City" refers to the city proper. Taipei City proper is surrounded on all sides by New Taipei.
Taipei is the political, economic, and cultural center of Taiwan. Considered to be a global city,[4] Taipei is part of a major industrial area. Railways, high speed rail, highways, airports, and bus lines connect Taipei with all parts of the island. The city is served by two airports – Taipei Songshan and Taiwan Taoyuan.

Very cool entry list. Really hope Kimiko can do well as the top seed here and in Nanjing. 4 of the 8 seeds here are from one country in Asia...and it's not China but Japan. Japanese tennis really is doing well at the moment. :)

Hope Slava and Petra have good weeks here as well. The big surprise for me is seeing Alison Van Uytvanck in the draw. Over the course of Alison's tennis career she has made very few trips outside of Europe, just a Fed Cup tie which I'm sure the Belgian Tennis Federation paid for, an ITF in Israel and of course the US Open qualifying. So Alison playing this event really is a huge sign that she is at least going to give it her best shot to get into the the Australian Open directly. Won't be easy though.

Re: WTA 125 Taipei (TPE) 2013 | Nov 04

BTW, surface is going to be Gerflor Taraflex, one of the fastest surfaces on Tour.

This is what the ITF says about the speed of those particular surfaces and where in the ATP are located:

Category 1 - Slow
Category 2 - Medium-Slow
Category 3 - Medium
Category 4 - Medium-Fast
Category 5 - Fast

Gerflor Taraflex (Lyon, MS Paris): 5 - Fast
Greenset (Former MS Madrid) : 3 - Medium
Plexipave (Stockholm): 3 - Medium
RuKortHard (Zagreb): 5- Fast
Decoturf II (Indianapolis): 4 - Medium-Fast
Rebound Ace (Former AO): 4/5 - Medium-Fast / Fast
Premier Court: (Not listed)
Play Pave (Chennai): 3 - Medium
Plexicushion (AO): 3/4 - Medium / Medium-Fast
Decoturf (USO): 4 - Medium-Fast

I know, but come on, she is Taiwanese and lives in Taipei. She could have skipped Nanjing and played the biggest tournament in her country.

Other MDWCs are Gajdosova ('08 Winner), Yung-Jan Chan and Hao-Ching Chan.

Also, Doubles MDWC to Chia-Jung Chuang. :hearts:

Like I told you in the other thread, she isn't the spotlight there so... not surprised she isn't there!

Maybe she will be there for doubles to help her sister out ;)

WC to Gajdosova :help:
She did win the tournament before... though another Taiwanese wouldn't hurt.
