Davenport Not Ready!
'Davenport Struggling To Find Form!'
Wimbledon champion Lindsay Davenport has been quoted as a 'doubt' ahead of the first major of the season on the WPTA tour after failing to recover from a mystery bug she picked up during the American hardcourt season.
After winning Wimbledon, the American was expected to grab the number 1 spot but played a below par standard hardcourt season and it was obvious to the fans, fellow players and the media all was not right in the Davenport camp. She shruged it off and headed to Madrid in high spirits hoping to recapture her SW19 form but Davenport looked a pale shadow of her former self losing in all her matches. At the end of the round robin stages Davenport announced she had one aim - 'to defend her Wimbledon title'
Despite it being a fairly negative press release, connections close to the former US Open finalist said she was eager to get back into practise and perform well in Australia, where she has reached the Semi Finals of the Australian Open twice in her career.
But Davenport has failed to get enough practise in after feeling constantly fatigued and her doctors have only recently diagnosed here with a virus. Having recovered 90% from it, Davenport headed down under earlier than the majority of player to adapt to the conditions but is struggling to find any of her signature power.
Davenport is down to play in the first tournament of the year at the Gold Coast, but it is unknown how well she will perform
