You don't think Australia is a big country?

Not to mention - a tennis-loving, sport-obsessed country with a Grand Slam of its own?

Interesting.

In any case, no. Was Stosur/Schiavone any more "likely" to draw viewers based on this logic? Or Halep/Ostapenko?

Australia is large, not populous. And the time difference doesn't help.
And Stosur and Halep were far better known to the man in the street.

Nah. Trends for the French have been up this past decade overall. Sure figures will rise and fall in places but not by huge amounts in most countries. The AO usually has lowest figures because it's time scale is most out of whack with most of the tennis world. However those Li Na finals are something else.

The time difference is fine. The only problem is the French Open is not on free TV so most people don't even know it's happening.
Iw as going to add, the whole movement from free to pay TV is probably the bigger issue in TV numbers. Great pay TV numbers would make poor free TV numbers. Global audience figures can be tricky to evaluate on that regard.

What are the global viewing figures for the past 10 years? Is that published anywhere I’m curious to see. Or do you have to look country by country?

Timezone isn't a problem, its early on a Saturday night and in tennis terms Australia is a large population.
