Chris Whiteside and Preacherfan have been asking about pre-computer rankings. If anyone finds them we'll add them in here-and we can add the year-end computer rankings as well.

Pre-1919 ratings are particularly scarce. Many thanks to Elegos 7 for the following:
I have found some women's rankings (classifications) between 1898 and 1904 in LAWN TENNIS FOR LADIES by MRS. LAMBERT CHAMBERS (this book can be found on-line on the internet). These include only British and Irish players but in my opinion can be regarded as world rankings for these years. It was only in 1905 that May Sutton came to England and surprised everybody with her strong tennis, winning Wimbledon. Until that time, British and Irish ladies dominated every event that they entered. The only US Ladies Champion who played Wimbledon before Sutton was Marion Jones in 1900, but she lost early.
It is great to have rankings before 1921 when Wallys Myers began his world rankings.
Have any of you encountered similar classifications for the pre-1914 period? I would also be interested in men's classifications. Please send me a personal message if you have such rankings.
Here are the Top8 players for each year. There are several ties as you can see below.
