i think daniela needs to have a strong showing here at leipzig and try to get back into the top ten and to stay there. if not, nadia petrova should take advantage of the situation and really try to make it as far she can go.

Almost anyone on this list would be an interesting addition to the Top 10. For Sugiyama, Zvonareva, Petrova, Suarez or Shaughnessy it would be something to finally tick off their to-do list, for Hantuchova it could signal a turnaround to her slide, for Martinez or Coetzer it would be welcome back after a long vacation. Myskina and Maleeva are the boring ones, because they have both been there recently and rarely make any headlines.

Realistically, anyone from Petrova upwards has a chance.

Maleeva hasnt been in the top 10 recently, sicne lke 96 and shes such a fighter, coming back from injuries, i hope Maggie gets there!!

That shows that the #10 spot is extremely "weak" right now.

Current no. 10 (Myskina) has 1702 points.

On February 3rd this year, Jelena Dokic was no. 10 with 2526 points.
And Myskina as no. 11 had 2150 points, so she was better than she is now, which is what most of us have been thinking anyway.

Petrova and Zvonareva have plenty of time and plenty of chances do i hope Maleeva gets in, she is a fighter and it may be her last chance to get into top 10...GO MAGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah but I think Ai will get there in the next couple of weeks. Myskina loses Leipzig points and on form don't think she will make a final indoors this year. Hantuchova could move back into top 10 after leipzig if she makes the SF but would have to probably beat Kim to do that and last time they met she won 3 games, and even if she does go back into the top 10 she has 200 points for a final last year in filderstadt to defend and that tournament is loaded with players and she might not even be seeded depending on her ranking. Maleeva has moscow win and luxembourg final to defend. So based on that I'd think Ai will get there with a good showing in Tokyo, and Zurich and also maybe needs a good performance in Linz to. Vera and Petrova are her only threats to top 10 finish for the year I think.

Given current form, who would you say is the favourite to take number 10 spot? As a "stab in the dark", I'll back Hantuchova to do it irregardless of form, her fortunes have to change sometime and I think it's now

I don't know if she can do it next week, but I expect Nadia Petrova in the top 10 by the end of the year. She has little to defend.

i think nadia should be taking strides to make into the top 10. she has the goods to get it done. i don't know why she's lacking the mental fortitude to do so but she should try to do soemthing about it.
