I am not sure if you want me to address all or even any of the points you made or if you're just refuting stuff for refuting sake. I will clarify, a lot of the "norms" you are referring to do not always work here. We are not running on a typical Xenforo package, as I believe I've discussed with you before. We have custom tooled and developed our own software.
even worse than I thought;
it was intention to destroy the functionality and enjoyment of the old forum

reaffirming: no major updates here, only short notes about my progress, until further notice

1893 finished
in opposite to last year's incredibly close outcome, this year it is very clear again

short view:
Code:
rk ·· #T ··· sum ···· bonus · player · (HP)
1 ··· 7 ···· 2875 ··· 1387 ·· Bingley Hillyard, Blanche · (1)
2 ··· 8 ···· 2007 ··· 838 ··· Shackle, Maud · (1)
3 ··· 10 ··· 1346 ··· 273 ··· Cooper, Charlotte · (3)
Unfortunately, the large majority is represented with only one result, while players with more than 5 results are still rare exceptions.

for June 18, 1894:
Because of the US Championships held earlier, this year's and last year's champion both are ranked top10 this week coincidentally, first time two non-Brits got that.
And with Mabel Cahill playing in America, there are 3 players ranked top10 only from overseas results.

____

When Blanche Hillyard ends the year 1894 at no.1, she outruns Hingis and Chris Evert by most weeks reigning, and is now 5th behind Serena.

for 1895 June 17: Louisa Martin played her first singles tournament after a 3 years pause and wins Manchester by defeating three no.1-players enroute (the current, Charlotte Cooper, and two former). She re-enters my rankings at no.10.

1895 July 1: Lottie Paterson, playing for 9 years now, earned a top5 ranking for the first time

1895 August 5: Charlotte Cooper wins Newcastle, one of the most competitive tournaments of the year, with victories over current no.3 Shackle and no.2 Jackson and 748 points. It's the third time she earned 700+ points this year. She collects the most points-sum so far in a ranking-period with 4572, the previous best had collected Blanche Hillyard with 4359 seven years ago.

1895 Sept. 16: Blanche Hillyard wins Eastbourne, the most competitive tournament of the year, by defeating all the current top four ranked players enroute. She is the first player to earn more than 1000 points in a week (584 round points + 686 bonus =1270!).

Valuing all the 1896 tournaments with reference to my 1895 year-end rankings, surprisingly the Irish Championships has the best competiton (6 top-tenners), relatively early in the English tennis season, ahead of the Northern Ch. as second best.

1896 Aug 3: With winning Newcastle Blanche Hillyard can recapture the top, while finalist Bertha Steedman can rise up into the top-ten again (last time 1893).

1896 Sept 14: as expected, when Hillyeard's record-breaking points from last year's Eastbourne triumph fall off, Charlotte Cooper ends this season at number one.

Charlotte Cooper ends her 2nd season at no.1, after she defeats the nearest contender Blanche Hillyard in Brighton and Eastbourne back-to-back.

  • the number of ranked names is the lowest since 1892
  • the technically maximum of round-points steadily increased until 1888 to 6,000, but since then it only wavers around that mark

year 1898

June 13: with winning Beckenham, C. Cooper breaks the record for most points collected in a ranking-period, a record formerly set by herself 3 years ago.

Therefore it seemed highly improbable to have a change at the top this season.
But it happened anyway:
Sept 19: When Edith Austin wins Brighton and reached the final in Eastbourne it is enough to dethrone Cooper,
because Cooper simultaneously couldn't defend all those points which secured her last season's top position.
Edith Austin is my 17th player ranked at number one. She is an old contender, had reached the number two in 1893 first.

The Brighton tournament, which Austin had won, set a new record for competition-value.
yearly values so far:
Code:
········ best ····················· Wimbledon

1891 ··· >>> ······················ 26 (37)
1892 ··· >>> ······················ 38 (51)
1893 ··· 32.7 (41.3) Manchester ··· 31.5 (42.7)
1894 ··· 36 (43.7) Eastbourne ····· 33 (42.6)
1895 ··· 44 (52) Eastbourne ······· 36 (47)
1896 ··· 37 (47) Dublin ··········· 23 (33)
1897 ··· >>> ······················ 34 (44)
1898 ··· 47 (53) Brighton ········· 39 (47)
It's only the 4th time so far a tournament got a "first" value of 40+.
