Working Title is delighted to announce WIMBLEDON will start filming in June. Starring Paul Bettany (“A Beautiful Mind”, “Master and Commander”) and Kirsten Dunst (“Spiderman”), the romantic comedy set at the No.1 tennis championship of the world, Wimbledon, is directed by Richard Loncraine (“Richard III”, “The Gathering Storm”) and produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Mary Richards and David Livingstone. The script is by Adam Brooks (“French Kiss”).

The story is about Peter (Paul Bettany), a British man clutching to an embarassingly low position on the tennis ranking ladder. He is given a wild card for Wimbledon which is to be his final bow but when he falls in love with a young hot shot American tennis star, Lizzie, (Kirsten Dunst) his on court prowess, skills – and a little luck - catapult him from round to round bringing him closer to his dream of winning the men’s singles title.

The production has been granted unprecedented access by The All England Lawn Tennis Club to film certain scenes during The Championships this year. Filming will then continue at Wimbledon after the tournament and at Shepperton and locations around London.

Working Title, co-chaired by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, is Europe’s leading film production company. Together, they have made more than 60 films grossing over two billion dollars worldwide including “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Fargo”, “Notting Hill”, “Elizabeth”, “Bridget Jones’s Diary”, “Billy Elliot”, “About A Boy” and the current hit “Johnny English”.

Universal Pictures is a division of Vivendi UNIVERSAL Entertainment (VUE) (www.universalstudios.com), the U.S.-based film, television and recreation entity of Vivendi Universal, a global media and communications company.

I was thinking of writing a screenplay about a young girl named Diva who is spotted by a tennis agent who has just lost his #1 star due to injury and he's all washed up and needs the money so he moulds the air-headed Diva into a passable tennis player and she joins the tour and causes mayhem and hooks up with another tennis player who looks remarkably like Monica Seles and they become lesbian lovers and Diva wins stuff and so does Moni... I mean the player who looks like Monica and they live all happy ever after... THE END

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

That's what I thought of next...

I am in the running to be the Dutchess of Kent. It is down to me and Jane Fonda, but the clincher is, I can sing, and it is a partial musical. Sorry, but Jane cannot sing.

They are throwing in a song for the Dutchess to sing when a sexually ambiguous blonde serve and volleyer chokes away a 4-1 lead in the third set of a ladies' final. This girl, the working character's name is "Lana," cries on my shoulder, but I break into "You'll Plant Your Own Tree Next Year" adaptation. No word yet on whether there will be an on-court Calder mobile for me to negotiate.

LOL!

The sad thing is, there will probably be something like that. A finale on court. And the Queen will appear. And all the line judges and ballboys/girls will sing and dance. And Alan Mills will sing a solo.

there's also another tennis movie in production. It stars Reese Witherspoon. The movie is untitled and it is set around the US Open. The storyline follows the life of a burnt out star in the WTA and how she coaches a talentless blonde tennis player into winning the US Open. Venus and Serena Williams will also be mentioned in the movie. I'll attach the site later.

one news report said that Kirsten was courtside at last year's Wimby soaking up the atmosphere.

what i'd like to know is...isn't this the reason Bridgitte married the Android in the first place? what happened to her part in the movie? ;)

Are they going to pay Dunst less, just like her real-life counterparts? :)

Will there be any scenes in the lockerroom? You know, to give us some, er, insight into her character. *cough*

It seems the All-England Club finally found a way to get a British men's champ.

So, we'll have Wimbledon and the US Open. Now we just need Oz and RG. What plots could center around those two?

How about "The Chris O'Neill Story", chronicling her rise from nowhere to... relative obscurity.

Or how about a story about a poor, but beautiful, young Aborigine woman with tremendous natural talent and grace, but who sometimes goes on a mental walkabout. She could rise to the top of the world rankings, charming the crowds wherever she went. .... Nah, that might be a bit far-fetched. :)

Or, it could be a tale of a young Aussie lass who is a serve/volleyer with a huge serve, and called "The Thunder Down Under". (Just make sure they don't give her flatulence.)

For RG, how about "She Likes to Play Dirty"? It could be about a clay specialist determined to make that one last push for a slam. And/or, it could be about someone who will resort to anything to win. Itching powder in an opponent's clothes. Sneaking a tiny camera into the lockerroom to take nude photos of other players, then releasing them on the internet before she plays them, to upset them. Or spreading gossip behind the scenes. Or seducing another player's spouse/boyfriend/girlfriend and arranging for them to be "caught". (Sounds like something out of Soap Opera 101.)

I look forward to those real movies coming out, and hope they are a success. And I hope they are well done, too. We've had only a handful of tennis-related movies, and most have been crap.

Hey, maybe they should make a movie about Fed Cup. :)

Personally I think the US Open movie sounds a bit better than the Wimbledon one..but I guess we shall see.

Don't like the idea.. I mean, why the main character is a guy? Women's tennis is much more interesting! There should be a movie about WTA'S behind the scenes..in the locker room with all the fights, relationship and even a lesbian affair? All inspired on reality..

Oh I would love so much, and would even watch millions and millions of times!

From what I've heard all Henman fans should see the Wimbledon film as it features something they'll never see - a British Champion
