This is so boring,
Elina is so extra pushy here
And I fall asleep in the middle of the second set

Congratulation Simone for the first Wimbledon final

I thought this would be so long after the first 2 games

Simona was the agressive one from beginning to end(26 winners!). Svitolina just didn’t know what she wanted to do. She seemed very apathetic.
Congrats Simona!

As if we have to rely on Serena to save tennis :scared:

Elina generally reverts to push mode when she's nervous, and she was always going to be nervous in her first grand slam semi (there's a reason she's never got to this point before). I'm not at all surprised that she came out so incredibly tentative, and I'm pleased that Simona was able to expose that and win by being the more aggressive player. It's a good lesson for Elina that pushing just isn't good enough to win at this stage of a tournament, and she'll be happy just to have broken her slam duck regardless.

Hopefully we get the Simona/Serena final we've been waiting for! Excellent match from Simona which is really fantastic to see after the somewhat tough year she's had.

Halep in a Wimby final. Well done... and it's gonna take some performance to beat her. She's getting to EVERY ball.

Simona Halep is the true boss of the WTA. Serena Williams has been semi-active for years and can't keep the tempo anyway in all the tournaments.

Can't think of a more boring and predictable final than Halep v Serena :scared:
Halep vs Strycova obviously.

Seriously though, I don't see why people don't give Halep a chance vs Serena. They played plenty of close matches already, including at this year's AO. Simona might have a mental bloc against Serena, but at the same time Serena has been very messy in her last big finals as well.

The last time they met at a Grand Slam wasn’t that dull a match? ;)

A WILD SVITOLINA appears!

HALEP learned a new move: DROPSHOT!

HALEP used DROPSHOT against SVITOLINA.

It's super effective!

HALEP uses LOVE HOLD x 3.

WILD SVITOLINA fainted. HALEP gains 380 XP.

HALEP levels up to HALEP 4.0.

Quite an anticlimax in some ways after the first two long games taking 20 minutes to complete. Halep raised her gear though and never let her foot off the pedal, while Svitolina did improve a little but wasn't a match for Halep's accurate controlled hitting. Even the net favoured Halep today, and she used the new move dropshot very effectively.

Simona was so determined! Nothing was going to stop her from making the Final today. <img src="http://www.tennisforum.com/images/smilies/hearts.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Hearts" class="inlineimg" /> She played with such perfectly controlled aggression.

Elina's lucky run has come to an end. If Margarita's body hadn't failed her, she would have been out in the first round.
Sharapova, Kvitova and Serena could have stopped her. One of those will stop her. ?
Yeah,Sharapova could’ve stopped her if she had won some matches first...

I'm so impressed with Simona's performance today. She was assertive and kept a good level of intensity throughout. I hope she'll find the inspiration to play like this more consistently, because it really showcases what she is fully capable of doing. I'm really proud of her for rising to the occasion as bravely as she did today.

Elina, tough day at the office, but she never really showed up, and when she tried, she couldn't match Simona's level. I don't know if it's jitters, but she really looked, well, and I don't like to say this, basic. I hope she'll be able to get over this loss soon and show up for the summer HC season. Making your first slam SF in a tournament that no one expects you to is still a great achievement.

Don't let the first set score fool you: it was a physical grinder in which the first twenty minutes of the 43 minute set were taken up by the first two service games: Halep's serve went to deuce five times (she held) while Svitolina's went to deuce six times (she broke); in the third game of the set Halep didn't win a point. But despite errors and occasional double fault, Simona was striking the ball harder with more precise redirection than Elina, plus the Halep hustle had her sprinting to get her racquet on the ball to pull off super winners; Svitolina looked slower and less agile by comparison and her returns were largely defensive and lacked a challenging pace...and so Simona won the set but she had to work for it.

In the seventh game of the second set Halep won a break to go up 4-3; she held (5-3) and with a little more agility and accuracy getting to the ball Simona breaks again for the game set match.

The focused finalist

Not a fan of Halep but nice to see her getting to another final in a different surface rewarding her consistency and hard work.
Came strong and dealt with the pressure. I do believe in her chances against both Serena and Barbora.

Elina
Hopefully now that she managed to break into a SF, she’ll be able to play more relaxed in the upcoming slams.

They are both grinders, but Simona has still always had the more precise, assertive game, so not surprising that the grass put the advantage firmly in her hands. Elaine was on the back foot almost from first to last.
