Solid, commanding and relatively quick from Petra. Just what we wanted to see :)

After not being sure if we’d even see her on the Wimbledon lawns this year, she’s steadily moving through. Let’s not get too excited yet but she was looking good today :grin2: first match point aside

It might be a good thing that other players such as Gauff, Barty, Osaka, Serena, Konta etc are getting a lot more media attention this year because that pressure hasn’t always been a good thing for Petra wherever she plays and definitely hasn’t helped here in the past.

Petra was really good today, played with a lot of focus and was quite controlled with her shotmaking even though she still hit them with a lot of pace and power. Great serving today, didn't hit a single DF nor face a single BP and returned very well off the Linette serve although sometimes she went for too much (but kinda expected with her). Movement was quite good too.

Linette didn't play badly but just didn't have enough weapons to really put Petra out of her comfort zone today. Her 2nd serve in particular, though - just getting pummeled time and time again. I think she won less than 30% of the second serve points in the entire match. Did very well to defend BPs with some clutch serving & clutch plays though, credit to her otherwise the scoreline could have been much worse.

I think this is a good match-up for Petra - someone who doesn't mix it up and doesn't have much weapons to hurt her. Perfect for her to get her match rhythm.

Kvitova into her first Wimbledon 2nd week since she won it in 2014. Dangerous signs for the other players in the draw if she can keep this up, but at this point being a Petra fan I'll just take it one match at a time, knowing that a shitfest could be upon us anytime with her.

As I expected, “Banause” Linette was mostly a walking bye for Petra ? Nice easy win, Petra didn’t face a single break point and I think she had break points in almost every Linette service game. Petra is just in a different class. First second week at Wimbledon since 2014, hard to believe! Hopefully she can go all the way again. :worship:

Second week of Wimbledon. :hearts:

Nice clean hitting from Petra, zoned in the entire match. Linette did her best but she does not have the game type to trouble Petra and didn't get any chances to turn the tide.

Liked what I saw from Petra again today, her best performance so far imo.

Next round against Stephens or Konta will tell us where she's at though, she's had a nice draw so far, Monday is when it gets tough.

Just

I hope she can keep this form up

Konigin (sp?) played well and they had a laugh on the penultimate point

Good performance from Petra, can only take it a match at a time and hope the arm holds up. Get some more physio and rest Petra.

You are right, this Linette disaster is nothing else than yet another tragic player from our northern neighbour. No surprise, Petra totally overwhelmed her. She did not even deserve that 3rd round, I really cant understand, how Anisimova could lose to this...

Priceless exchange between TV commentators:

'Shouldn’t Linette try to mix it up?'
'It’s hard to think about slices, dropshots or varierty when rockets are being fired at you all the time' :haha:

Anyway, Petra looks good, hope the hand injury won’t flare up in Week 2.

GL vs. Konta/Stephens :)

I am also still mystified how Anisimova lost to this basic player. I can only think Amanda was more frightened by the prospect of playing Petra next. Honestly Petra should have double bagelled Linette today. Linette was lucky to win five games.
