What a coincidence, I was just watching this match the other day.

Because both players were injured, it made it more like a chess match. Both girls seemed to engage their brains more, especially in moving the opponent around.

I was struck by how natural the volleying was. Same goes for the passing shots. Makes the Chris-Martina era seem positively robotic!

Overall, it was a bit like watching Steffi Graf (Madge) play an on-form Hana Mandlikova (BJK). Flashes of brilliance from BJK, occasional erratic play... but at the crucial stage in so many points, it was the sheer power of Court which won it for her.

BJK had tons of breaks in the first set, but Madge always pulled it back.

My copy has great commentary by the previous year's champion Anne Jones.
